Hi there.
I have a Cactus Gray Wild track. Getting a white top (soon?).

I am trying to get the roll cage painted white.

Shops don't want to paint it bc too much work involved. Wrapping companies are either saying no or charging a lot bc of all the detail work.

One shop saying the best option is to powder coat it. They think the cage CAN come off. They looked up the VIN.

I said I'm not so sure it can. I figured I'd ask the experts....you guys!

Does anyone have first-hand knowledge that the roll cage CAN be removed? Or first-hand knowledge that it CANNOT?

Thank you!

Not removable.
Even if it was, a ton more work than draping and masking off the rest of it to paint it.
Not that that is not in itself a ton of work.
It's expensive because it is a LOT of time and materials to drape off and prep, paint it.
Correct way would be to remove all of the plastics from around it, etc. And that takes time as well.

Yes, it can come off.

But it's not a "remove a handful of bolts to remove roll cage" sorta thing. You'll be cutting out welds to take it off, and then re-welding it back on at the end. Not something a typical paint shop would do.

It will be far cheaper just to mask and paint. Although "cheaper" is not "cheap". Either way you look at it, it's just a lot of time/materials/effort to disassemble and mask everything to paint it properly.

@RagnarKon pretty much covered it.

Also keep in mind that there's wiring and airbags running in and around the cage. Removing the plastics makes it far easier to mask, but some shops might not want to work around exposed airbags.

lol, if cutting welds then re-welding is your definition of “can come off,” what’s your definition of something that isn’t removable?😂

I like the way you think. Get ‘er done 💪

I would think it wouldn't be that big of a deal to wrap just the exposed parts.
I wouldn't go near taking off the airbags and all the plastics that no one would ever see anyway

If one was to go through all of that I’d say cut it out and build a custom one, .120 wall DOM should do it, fully custom, speaker points where you want em, more clearance and all the rigidity you can handle. Factory is just that factory. Go big or go home🇺🇸

I imagine that will likely end up weakening the structural integrity if not done perfectly, I saw something about avoiding any cutting because there is something about how they designed it that keeps it strong without a middle crossbar but any alteration could lead to it failing in a roll.

I could be totally wrong but I remember a discussion somewhere about this.
