Just think of it in relation to Wranglers.

Base - Sport
Big Bend - Sport S
Black Diamond - Willys Wheeler
Outer Banks - Sahara
Badlands - Rubicon
Wildtrak - Moab
Why would you compare black diamond to the willys? I don't get it....

I feel like the big bend is the red headed step child of the bunch.

base - entry level low price
Big bend - ?
Black diamond - vinyl seats, rubber floors, off road equipment
Outerbanks - luxury
Badlands - rock crawler
Wildtrak - desert runner

they need to give it something to separate it from the other trims. If this is going to be the mass market trim, give it features that appeal to the masses. People buying the bronco as a daily driver that will never see an off-road trail would appreciate the auto or the mid package being standard. As it stands now, ford could just get rid of the big bend trim and offer the options it adds (leather steering wheel, privacy glass, wheels, etc) as a convenience package on the base.

The big bend is essentially the XLT trim if you compare to like the ranger or F150. Gets you the ability to get some of the nice features without the lux of lariat and higher. Thats pretty appealing to the masses if you ask me. I mean for me personally the only option its missing is leather lol.

I also think you underestimate the amount of people that don't want to say they have a base model lol

JK Willys actually had some better off-road features. Dana 44, lower gearing, MTs, etc. It's the closest trim I could come up with in the 30 seconds I spent thinking about it. ?

+1

Willys is the closest Jeep comes to the Black Diamond.
Adding a locker to the Bronco, instead of a short lived clutch pack rear LSD in the Willys, just rubs Jeeps nose in the performance difference.

The BD is really a 3/4ths Rubicon, for far less.
Most buyers don't need the front locker, or super low gears.
If you do, adding the squatch will get you there.

Its to force those of us who need the mid package into the big bend. I have a reservation in for the base, but every day I realize I would like the mid package. Wheels + tires are easy to change ... but that wouldn't be. So unfortunately, I'm going to have to step up to the BB or BD.

A lot of us in the Base thread are guessing that 33"s (255/85R16) will fit factory steel rims.
I'm curious too, what is the diff between a 16" and 17" wheel (besides the 1")? Better ride, revolutions, etc? My thinking was to replace both the tires and wheels, 16" to 17's. Is going to 17's necessary?

Not liking steelies but not a dealbreaker. Can always put on hubcaps :ROFLMAO:

Taller sidewalls air down better.
Street ride is softer.
Less likely to damage a rim going over large rocks.
Tall and skinny straight line track better than fatties.
Lower rolling resistance.
Lower unsprung weight for a given tire diameter.
Cheaper rubber( except when you go to super tall sidewalls , like the 255/85)

Negatives:
street handling is mushier, because the sidewalls flex while turning.
Don't get to impress the Starbucks crowd with how much you spent on giant hoops.

Thanks! So you're saying the 17's are better for these reasons?

This thread on price differences between models may be interesting. Note how 4 Door plot is very linear from Base to Badlands and the 2 Door plot is very linear from Big Bend to Badlands. But there is a greater than linear jump from 2 Door Base on up.

In short, the Base 2 Door is lower than expected based on the price curves, making bigger price increases from both 2 Door Base to Big Bend as well as Base 2 Door to 4 Door.

General consensus seems to be that the pricing of Base 2 Door is to keep cost under $30K with destination even though the price is lower than it should be (or lower than Ford would actually like to price it).
Think C8- How did Chevy make a profit while selling it for under 60K. What drives showroom traffic? Is it an fancy commerical or a lost leader price that you actual sell very few units?

If you only do mild off roading, you will not have any issues with 32” or 33” tires. Just make sure you don’t go wider than 265 on the stock rims. See Incognito’s post #85 in this thread. He is suggesting 255/85/16, and that’s a true 33” tire. Or, you can go to a 265/75/16 which is close to 32”.

I'm an off-road noob. Can you explain the axle information? If I'm not doing any major off-roading, can I just get away with adding 32 or 33 inch tires to the Base rims? I'm assuming I won't need to upgrade the axles for the mild stuff I'd want to do. I guess regearing since the speedo would be off?
