Not sure if that is a cat or just a resonator but it sure screams steal me.
Looks like a resonator to me.
New cars have the cats closer to the engine so they heat up faster.

A skid plate is probably the best on car security option to stop this problem.

Can't have your catalytic converter stolen if you are straight piping it.

That's what I was thinking. If it's not there, they can't steal it.

If someone will is willing to go at your vehicle with a sabre saw or angle grinder, there isn't much you can do to stop them aside from an armed guard.

Cut some steel tabs and weld it to the frame.

Anyone have any experience with a cat lock? Think this would actually help to prevent theft? Probably wouldn't stop them if they really wanted it, but may deter some from even trying and just move on to an easier vehicle.

All they have to do is cut in front & behind it. It's like the old Club for car theft prevention, people just cut the steering wheel. If someone wants it bad enough, they will get whatever they are after.

John (@StephensAutoCenter), I know you, unfortunately, had numerous catalytic converters stolen from about 20 of the vehicles at your dealership back in January (reference post below from your base thread). :(

Do you have any suggestions for this thread, based on that recent experience? I’m sure that must have been a frustrating week for you, so I was hoping you might be able to share a few pearls of wisdom so others here don’t suffer through the same experience in the future.

Sorry for the delay in getting to everyone... Someone mentioned above, we had about 20 or so catalytic converters stolen from vehicles Friday Morning and Saturday Morning...

I've never seen these before but it looks like you unbolt structural elements and run them through the steel wire so the cat can't be removed without either cutting the cable or cutting that crossmember out. Neither sounds like a challenge I'd accept if I'm in a hurry while trying to not get shot or arrested.

From the thread mentioned a few posts up:

I don't remember if there was a secondary cat but the primary one (at least on this 2.7L) was tucked way up by the firewall so it should be safe.

I reckon Winchester makes a theft deterrent they call the “Defender”. Mounts ona rack in the back window for connsoieurs of the classic look, and covers about a six foot spread at 10 yards.

I've lost like 7 cats in the last 30 years in my town. There isn't much you can do. Move or be prepared.
