CB Antenna Mount (Homemade) Now With Full Radio Install Pics.

This is a work in progress. However,I figured out where and how I'm going to mount my antenna. Don't give much attention to the coax connector. I'm most likely going with a right angle pl259 connector. Maybe this will help others with choosing a mounting location.

Looks like a solid mount location. Not sure if the other poster was joking or not, but I’m curious about your choice to stick with cb over gsrm.

Citizens Band radio. License free communications system. Huge in the 70s. Remained huge among off-road and motorcycle community until GMRS (General Mobile Radio System) came around and has been getting replaced quickly by it.
However, there are still a lot of groups that use it and haven’t moved to gmrs for various reasons. Gmrs requires a license to legally operate and all new equipment if you already have cb.

Cool, thanks for clarifying. I'm not faulting your use of it but was curious. I figured it must be that the folks you know are sticking with it, or something like that.

FWIW, and you probably know this, GMRS does require a license but involves no test and only a $30 fee which covers your family for 10 years. To each his own though, use whatever serves you best.

Yes, I opened my box of 70’s stuff I stored away and found one under an old 8 track Beach Boys tape.

Ever use active logging roads? They use CBs and call out their mile marker - good to know when a 40ton log truck is coming your way

On the Alaska Haul road between Fairbanks and Dead Horse CB is the main truckers communication. They use marked call out areas and expect you to know they are coming round the bend or over the hill.

I go on sideband a fair amount (Channel 38 LSB) and listen to and sometimes talk skip. There are also some local CB base stations around here that I talk to.This radio was never used much and was purchased around 1996.Figured that I would put it to use.
If I ever feel the need to go GMRS I will probably start with a handheld unit.

Also if I might add, CB provides low cost, low barrier of entry into staying in communications with those around you while out playing in the dirt. Are there better options? Perhaps, but that depends on one's definition of "better".

I worked on the antenna match this am and once I was satisfied I called out on channel 38 lower side band and made a contact with someone in Mississippi. Working as planned.
