Has anyone removed the piece that the GOAT mode, shift lever and cup holders are a part of? Wondering how it comes loose.

The grab handle on the passenger side of the center console needs to be removed, as well as the plastic trim piece directly below/under the HVAC controls. After that... it's all plastic tabs that holds it in. You should be able to reference the images in @j_anderson post. Trim removal tool should get it out, I would start (gently) prying from the side closest to the window switches on the center console itself (the side closest to the rear of the vehicle). Don't yank up on it too hard, there is the wiring for the GOAT dial itself that you have to unplug.

Unlike @j_anderson's post, you do not need to remove the glove box, the trim under the steering wheel, or the HVAC controls themselves. Just the grab handle and the plastic trim directly under the HVAC controls.

Good to know. You do need to move the shift lever as well.

Yuuuup. Realized it as I was putting it back together. Felt kind of dumb.

You DO have to remove all of those pieces if you want to completely pull out the center console, which is probably why service manual tells you to remove all of those pieces. But if you just want to remove the top panel on the center console, you don't need to go as far as the service manual goes.

Granted if I was wiring a wireless charger like you did, I would probably still just remove everything just to give myself more room. So I guess it ultimately depends on what you are looking to do.

I am considering two added USB connections (shown below) on the front next to the stock one. Going to drill the hold and place them on each side. Have to see how much room is in there and if they will fit.

is the gear shift know just screwed to the post - the directions seem to imply that there is a procedure for that too.

@flip if you could attach '308-06 Manual Transmission External Controls - 7-Speed Manual Transmission – MT88, Removal and Installation' as well that would be super-helpful...thanks!
