Looks like an awesome trip! My fam and I are headed to Yellowstone on Friday. Is the park still using the odd/even license plate system to get in to the park?
Have a great time! Nope, they did away with that a couple of weeks ago. Also, they’re opening up a 6 miles stretch of Lamar Valley on Wednesday that had been closed since the floods. But you’ll need a day pass to access that area. Safe travels!

Nice pics from the trip!

BTW, did you buy a new grill and headlights for the BaseSquach?
Thanks! No, same grill and head lights. I just added some vinyl sticker lettering that I bought on Etsy. I’m hoping to get the Oracle letters some day 👍

Great trip came the other way from Chicago and added Rushmore. Left the ladies at home and did it with my 17 year old son. Agree BUG MAGNET they hit so hard you we thought rocks. Every time we stopped for gas my son would fill up while I cleaned windows. Funny little thing bothered me passenger wiper hits antenna if you flip it up. Not going to like that in Chicago winter. Lol. It climbed mountains like on flat ground. I took similar trip 44 years ago with my parents less my older sisters. My dad let me drive at 15 with permit. That was a station wagon. Pre-minivan. As kids we counted love bugs - VW Bettles kool you’s counted and waved to fellow Bronco’s. We just missed you as we went July 5 to 16.

Thanks for sharing this! Also, love that velocity blue color. It’s funny, that whole wiper hitting the antenna thing is getting to me too 😂. I carried a small portable squeegee with me on the trip, bought it at Walmart. It folds compact, but then extends out into a semi-full size one when needed. That thing worked great! I envy your MPG!

Any top picks for restaurants, bars, or don't miss places in Montana or Wyoming?

Doing a similar trip last week in September through Ketchum to Montana and back through Wyoming. I try to avoid tourist traps and first hand advice is always appreciated. Most places you find on internet searches tend to be overrated.

Brought the BaseSquatch (Valor) home December of 2021, and we're already nearing 16k adventurous miles!

Just finished an 11-day trip from Central California to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. July 18 - July 28.

Here is a quick trip recap with a few essential details and a few very non-essential details...enjoy.

2021 2.7L BaseSquatch (With zero issues so far). We only use 87 octane fuel. Automatic transmission.

MPG Prior to the trip 16.5 (normal mode)...MPG during the trip 20.9 (eco mode mostly...and sport during some twists and turns)

Miles traveled = 3,353

We had a metal cargo box (caged) hooked up going and coming with 350 pounds of gear. The MPG could've been better.

We had 5 passengers. Zero complaints regarding comfort, and only a few "I can't feel the AC" complaints.

We saw 36 other Broncos on the trip...and 51 baby Broncos (the kids kept track).

Of the 36...34 waved as we passed them by (lol...the kids got a kick out of this!).

No joke...we had maybe 30-40 people come up to us and say, "How do you like your Bronco?" or "Nice Bronco!" We even had a few Rubicon owners who had only positive things to say about the Bronco and were just curious as to my thoughts about my new car, and they just wanted to make conversation. I love talking about it to others.

My 7 year old said, "Dad, they're taking pictures of our Bronco again," about 5 times this trip. Pretty funny...he loves it!

This thing handled EVERYTHING well. We even took some off-road trails in the Bridger-Teton area and that was a lot of fun. Although, my Dad did complain that my squatch tires kept shooting rocks at his Ridgeline. I did come home with two very tiny rock chips on the sides of driver and passenger front door. Which means that my Rhino running board/sliders did the trick, because it could've easily been 50 dings and chips! Going to buy a little touch up paint for the future.

My front windshield came home intact, thank God. However, it is a BUG MAGNET. I'm probably going to purchase a bug deflector. I had to purge my window of bugs during every stop...but I didn't mind one bit.

It took me two hours to detail when I got home...it looks show room new again!

Cheers!

Awesome trip, thanks for sharing! I'm about to embark on a 3k+ mile road trip from CA to the East Coast in August in my BaseSquatch. What PSI did you run on the those Goodyears? Curious if it makes any difference in MPG.

Sounds like an awesome trip! I ran them at 35 PSI. To tell you the truth, I didn't give it much thought until now, you bring up a great point. Looking forward to your trip write-up! Safe travels

Thank you! We got lucky a few times! We also saw two grizzly cubs this trip as well. 21 bears in total (8 grizzlies), 9 wolves. Can't wait to go back

That's awesome! Have you ever been down the Beartooth Highway? I highly recommend it. Not sure if it's still open in late September though. Lamar Valley and Slough Creek area are a can't miss for sure (there's a wolf den to the left of this dirt road) There's also a pretty cool 6 mile drive in the park called "Blacktail Plateau Drive," that I think you'd like. There's only one like it in the entire park. Lots of wildlife in the area. Also, drive down Dunraven Pass...the views are spectacular. Just spotted a huge grizzly there on Tuesday night, then 30 minutes later a black wolf.

Bullwinkle's in West Yellowstone serves a great steak. Also, Dornan's in the Tetons is a pretty popular place, they have a couple of good restaurants. Its near the Moose/Teton entrance.

We take our small Blackstone griddle and cook up breakfast, lunch and dinner at various picnic areas throughout the park, so I don't have too many restaurant recommendations for ya!

Safe travels!

We saw momma moose w 2 calfs in MT & Bison & Elk & Deer in WY, but no Bears.

Only complaint is the back door seal got really squeeky, ordered some krytox lube after reading forums here.

didn’t get to do any trail / off-roading just the place we stayed in MT we were about 3 miles out dirt roads.
