I have fond memories of taking quads to Pismo Beach in my youth. When the opportunity came up for me to do a quick overnight trip from 23rd to the 24th, I jumped on it. Reservations were plenty, and the dunes were sparsely filled.
Don't worry, I didn't drive much further into the water lol. Just for this quick pic.
My campsite. I'de forgotten how damp and sandy everything gets.
The lone rider made an appearance.
The coastal birds were fun to watch.
I got up early in the morning and made my way to the dunes for a quick ride. The Ranger was out an about at 6:30am! he pulled me over for no flag. He was very nice and since no one was out he let it slide. But I did get one for the remainder of the day. I zip tied it to the tire carrier.
It was a bit surreal being out without anyone else. Really enjoyed it. Felt like my personal playground.
I went a bit overboard with the zip ties as you can see.
As I always do off-road, I met a bronco owner! Love meeting new bronco owners out in the wild.
They were from a dealership where Jim Farley picks up his cars. I asked if she could tell him about my window rattle. I'm expecting a call any day now.
I didn't do much hill climbing but I did drive the entire perimeter of the dunes a couple times. My goal was A) don't get stuck B) don't roll. Ran with 18psi and that seemed to work well. The morning sand was nice and firm but by the afternoon session it was a bit softer. Nothing too crazy. Ran in 4h with rear locked. No issues.
Highly recommend Pismo Beach (Oceano Dunes SVRA), you will not be disappointed.
Merry Christmas!
