It depends entirely on where and when you drive. I’ve had broken and/or chipped windshields on YJ, TJ(2), F250, VW Jetta (2), VW Golf. Driven a lot of miles.

Picked up my 4D Big Bend in October after a 472-day wait. I live in Chicago, not driving on a single dirt or rock road.

Fourth week of November had a rock strike that pitted, and then STREAKED across the whole windshield. It took three months to get the replacement windshield in, all the while More and more rockstrikes damaging the glass.

Now, less than two weeks later, I’ve got another strike that is going to spider out everywhere. Ford really REALLY went crappy cheap on the glass.

Mine caught a rock in the first week and split after using the defroster. It hit in the black part around the glass so I didn’t catch it in time. Safelite here in Ohio was $975, defender was $925, Local shop was $1300, and I ended up going back to the dealer and it was $850 for a new one. The recalibration cost is the killer for lane keeping if you have it. Like $250-$300 of the cost was just for that. Dealer did it for like $50 bucks. After I got the new one I put on a ceramic type coating on the windshield for like $40 that’s supposed to be good for a year. It’s a newer product so we will see if it helps but might be something you want to look at. It’s called shatter x I believe. Hopefully a better lasting solution comes out somewhere else but either way the angle makes us more vulnerable.

also I ordered a new windshield December 31st and it took about a month to come in.

Just said this in another post, I am by no means a specialist on "glass" but I do not believe they went with cheap glass. It just the design of the windshield. It is very common on other design profiles similar to the Bronco.(example: Jeep Wranglers/Gladiators)

Totally feel your pain, I'm going on my 4th... I do not believe Ford went with cheap glass, it is the design of the windshield - very common on Jeep Wranglers/Gladiators...

I could be wrong though, I'm not happy either way

EDIT: either way it sucks, but this is something most Ford owners or new owners to this design of vehicles are going to experience. Jeep owners have dealt with this issue for years. Leaking roofs are basically a feature of most Jeeps nowadays... 😬

I’ve bought my share of windshields for my Jeeps….in my 2020 I put gorilla glass in and it’s worked out really well thus far….hopefully this will become an option for the Bronco soon….

It's not just Ford. The windshield of my '19 Wrangler is terribly pitted. The only thing I can think of is the glass is too soft. (I don't even know if that's a thing, but it's the best thing I can think of).

I’ve owned quite a few Jeeps over the years, although not the JL or Gladys and have not had this level of disappointment in the windshields
My '19 JL has then same crappy glass. Pits everywhere. Jeep now offers "Gorilla" glass as a extra cost option. It's sad you have to pay extra for a quality windshield after you payed 50K for a vehicle.

Geesh. I'm at 6k miles without that happening in the Bronco. Thank goodness.

I always stay way back from other cars on the freeway but I know that helps very little overall. It's a matter of luck.
I wish... in Michigan our roads, as everyone is aware of, are just atrocious and the semi-haulers for dirt/gravel rarely ever put their tops over the cap of the hauler - so one nice pothole or bump sends shit flying down the road.

I looked at Stek Dynoflex a bit for mine. cost was around $450-500. It was supposed to help with most 'minor' chips, could barely see it, but was only expected to last 1-2yrs before your wipers scratched it up. You could 1.) use a ceramic to minimize friction & wear or 2.) not use your wipers.

I ended up saying no thanks.. hopefully we'll get Gorilla glass at some point. I don't feel like replacing a film every 1-2 years either at this point.
Not sure Gorilla glass is any better. The owners on the Gladiator Forum are complaining a lot about how fragile the gorilla glass is for them.

Rock hits windshield. Windshield breaks. Blame Ford. Seems about right for bronco6g.

Reminds me of the people complaining that water got inside when it was raining and the window was down.
I don't see it that way, even tiny impacts that have done nothing to other cars are leaving behind damage on these. The glass I had on my 335i would consistently take rocks on the freeway up to 1/2" and never once cracked from them.

I’ve read other posts about this but witnessed it firsthand today. Driving on the interstate in my 3 week old Badlands when a small pebble smaller than the size of a pea hit the windshield fright in the line of sight for the drivers side. Instant crack that went half way down the windshield. It will definitely spread in the next few days with the Florida heat.

I can now attest to what others have said: Ford went cheap on the glass for these.
What do you mean "cheap glass"??. I have owned several Ford's, Toyota's, Honda's, a VW Jetta, a Mazda 6, a couple Chevy's and two Pontiac's and at some point in time every one of them had a cracked windshield because a pebble/rock flew up and hit it. If the rock hits a windshield at the right angle with enough velocity it is going to crack it regardless of what kind of glass they use!
