Anyone install a small gas strut for cooler lid such as a Yeti to hold it open? Or a long tight wound spring like some boat hatches. Just tap spring to collapse it to close lid.

Maybe a bracket and small rivnut inserts to distribute load across the plastic. How would you attach them? I wouldn't want to screw anything into the cooler.
The Cordova Basecamp coolers have this feature built in. They are the only cooler I know of that does.

I'd mess it up and have a $300 paperweight.Screw them in, just like the Yeti bottle opener or Yeti fastners?
A friend set a hot crock pot in one, that did not end well.I'd mess it up and have a $300 paperweight.
A heavy ass cooler on unlevel ground/vehicle while in the back of a vehicle, it’s nice not having to deal with a lid that operates like the Bronco center console lid. I like to think of myself as a person that can improve almost anything. Or at least try.Europeans cannot comprehend American laziness.
