Anyone install a small gas strut for cooler lid such as a Yeti to hold it open? Or a long tight wound spring like some boat hatches. Just tap spring to collapse it to close lid.

How would you attach them? I wouldn't want to screw anything into the cooler.
The Cordova Basecamp coolers have this feature built in. They are the only cooler I know of that does.

Maybe a bracket and small rivnut inserts to distribute load across the plastic.

Screw them in, just like the Yeti bottle opener or Yeti fastners?

Mods expensive cooler, not happy with result, craft beer not cold anymore, wants a free replacement, is denied, post angry rant on forum for cars, not coolers.

A heavy ass cooler on unlevel ground/vehicle while in the back of a vehicle, it’s nice not having to deal with a lid that operates like the Bronco center console lid. I like to think of myself as a person that can improve almost anything. Or at least try.

Go to west marine and look at boat hatch cylinders. There is enough material to screw a cylinder into a yeti cooler lid and side without blowing thru.
