Seriously. The wiring is a hot mess. I would have ordered the factory tow package but I didn't want to delay my Bronco. I think my lack of options was the only reason I was the second delivery for my dealer despite being their 103rd order.Nice. Mine finally shipped today after almost three weeks. Now about the wiring...
Got the Curt Hitch delivered yesterday. Ordered through RealTruck.com link found here on the forum for $111 ($120 including tax).
Someone on the forum had asked if it came with the mounting bolts, it does.
Not a lot of clearance so you have to get the nut on before pushing the bolt all the way in. Can barely get your fingers in there, but it's possible with a 3/4" wrench. HD Modular bumper pictured.
It's barely a 1 beer job at 15 minutes. Hardest part is getting 110 ft-lbs toque lying down on your back and reaching up. I'm happy. Definitely a good deal compared to $350 for the OEM Ford one.
Update:
Profile pics for anyone who is concerned about clearance and departure angles. It doesn't stick out any further than the bumper and the recovery loop thing is still the lowest thing hanging.

No wiring harness?? Installed the Ford OEM one this week and it was literally 4 bolts. What takes all the time is the wiring. Plan half a day for that.Perfect. I'll be sure to stretch my install to 3 beers.
I think they call it a Class III because they give it a higher rating with a WDH, which they won't do with Class II recievers. That's news to me. I'd always heard Class II = 1.25" and Class III = 2"
Curt's website has just left me even more confused. https://www.curtmfg.com/types-trailer-hitches#HitchClasses
They say:
Class II = 1.25" and up to 3500 lb capacity and 350 lb tongue weight.
Class III = 2" and up to 8000 lb capacity and 800 lb tongue weight.
Then the Curt hitch for the Bronco says it's class III ... with a capacity of 3500 lb and 350 lb tongue weight so it's class III opening, class II rating according to their own documents. So I don't know what's what any more.
Edit to add that the towing capacity of the Bronco is up to 3500 lbs (depending model) which is the class II range.
I'm probably going to bite the bullet and buy a factory wiring harness and have the dealer install it. Likely going to cost me $300-400 but still less than the factory tow package and no delay.Seriously. The wiring is a hot mess. I would have ordered the factory tow package but I didn't want to delay my Bronco. I think my lack of options was the only reason I was the second delivery for my dealer despite being their 103rd order.
Sorry no seven pin option after the fact.I'm probably going to bite the bullet and buy a factory wiring harness and have the dealer install it. Likely going to cost me $300-400 but still less than the factory tow package and no delay.
I never said anything about "simple" I just only need to go the 4 pin route vs 7. Ill never tow anything heavy enough to need trailer brakes. Thats what my f150 is for.You are in for some major disappointment if your looking for simple wiring...
Thats if you have the option to get the hitch. On my base 2 door sasquatch the tow package was not available. The wiring harness is not the problem. It's the labor to run the wiring thru the interior thats the issue. Well documented. Much easier and less intrusive and probably cheaper to order factory hitch.
Don't need it. Won't tow anything but a small utility trailer.Sorry no seven pin option after the fact.
I need the Bronco first.Me too. I'll be installing it tomorrow!
Its complicated! The problem is that the towing capacity is in class 2 range (<3500#), with regard to its trailer tow capacity. Some Broncos are rated less than 3500#! Usually, cars that tow less than 3500 lbs have the 1.25" receiver, to prevent users from towing too much. There are cars limited to 1,000 or 2,000 lbs. But the Bronco has a 2" receiver which makes it a class three receiver, even though the car is not rated to tow over 3500#, and so is on class 2 territory. That is still only a class 2 correct?
7 pins are for electric brakes, not normally used on single axle trailers under 3500#Still am baffled as to why Ford doesn’t offer a 7 pin option as an accessory.
You do nice work. What frame members did the Kurt receiver bolt to? Do they look sufficiently connected to provide good support? Id love to hear how the wiring went as well!No wiring harness?? Installed the Ford OEM one this week and it was literally 4 bolts. What takes all the time is the wiring. Plan half a day for that.
