I asked a local south jersey shop to quote me a range for adding just a simple black vinyl stripe to my future Ford Bronco. Idk why, but I was expecting in the 400 dollar range.

Boy was I wrong. He asked for a mockup. I provided my crude mockup and below is his response.

For those familiar with getting this work done, are these prices normal?! Should I shop around or is this within typical range?

That price is insane. Keep hunting. Even 400 is a crazy price.

Or even just search online for a length of vinyl to put on yourself.
Okay I'm gonna keep shopping around. Have plenty of time to nail it

I don't have the patience to do these types of projects on my own. I was the kid in elementary school who always colored outside the lines. And my penmanship today is so bad that I have my significant other sign my cards

So yea...
Dude. Same.

I'm cheap though. I put a stripe like this on my truck. Used a laser level... Went to it. I have no patience for stuff like this either but it was pretty simple.

Regardless... That quote is crazy. You should be able to find a shop to do it for $200 I would think. Depends on your area though. The material is pennies and the labour would be charged for one hour.

Awesome. Thanks for the help. Gonna keep options open. But you're right-- I may find that I enjoy doing this with my new toy.

I'm gonna have to break up the CO somehow, so I plan to hit up Car Effex and New Age Powder Coating (and wraps). Maybe give them a call.

That's actually who I spoke to
Started with wanting them to powder coat my wheels but then figured I'd ask them about the vinyl wrap while I'm at it.

They didn't respond about the wheels but immediately responded about the wrap

I seem to remember wheels being around 150 each, from both.

I know Car Effex has their prices on the board, in their showroom. FYI - They have a nice variety of narrow splined wheel lugs, rather than the conventional keyed sets. I needed narrow for a set of Method Wheels, and they had them in stock.

That's probably $25 worth of vinyl to do those stripes on the door. I won't put a value on anyone's time, but the rest is labor and profit.

Maybe because it's Jersey? Things are different there.
