My chosen dealer Bowen-Scarff finally got a mannequin in for drives for order holders. I signed up this weekend for the first slot I could fit into and got to drive a Wildtrak today.
First off, I was really worried about Sasquatch having a negative impact on handling, but it was fine. The truck is tall (I’m 6’3.) The circuit they had for drives was all on-road and incredibly short; however, there were some railroad tracks and an on ramp to try out.
Railroad crossing: soaked up the bumps as if they weren’t there. The HOSS suspension does as advertised, much less rough than going over it in the 05 F150.
On Ramp: 2.7 has adequate giddyup. It could be faster, always, but I think it will do for my purposes. I would still be keen on the performance packs like what they’re offering for the 2.3 in the Ranger.
Nannies: lane keep assist didn’t seem to do much in the short run I was on the freeway but it turned on quickly and gave me some green bars in the cluster. Didn’t trigger the braking so I did ok on following distance. Blind spot mirrors worked well, let me know there was someone there.
360 view: intuitive, but still need to look around to see things like the support pole at the dealership. Ultrasonic sensors let me know when I was getting close to the end of the spot.
Really, the worst thing about the drive was the noise from the soft top and knowing I’m probably at least six months plus from having mine reserved in the first 20 hours.
Note the small SASQUATCH even on W/T
Door Bags, Plastic rear bumper
