This. If it's a standard thread size the customization options there are going to be... a lot. Phone mounts, camera mounts, rails, custom anything really.Damn if that is a 1/4 20 threaded insert im good buy a piece of rail 20.00$ and your good.
Only the lux?!There is some speculation based upon comments from one of the Bronco Nation videos done by one of the Bronco Specialists from Ford, that the rail is included with Lux package with the USB ports in the dash.
I thought the accessories they are talking about are the ones you would mount on the rail.I'm convinced it will be aftermarket only. Why would they imprint "Accessory Ready" if they were giving you the accessory?
I think that the 1/4 20 is fairly common in the camera accessory world so there will be lots of thumbscrews, brackets, and other items on the market. I would hope that the two ends of the rail might have some type of slotted arrangement with the dash, but we will have to see. That one center point would have to be cinched down pretty good if not. Also, no need to hope they use a standard thread. They will, but I don't know why it would need to be 1/4-20 as someone stated they were hoping for. I'll take any thread as long as its strong enough.
I'd agree the ends look like it could rattle. But some tiny rubber or silicone squares at the ends may help. We will see a hopefully improved final design.
I'm a cad/cam programmer and machinist. This is looking like something I'll want to make for fun.
You might get some order requests if it works. Also, no need to hope they use a standard thread. They will, but I don't know why it would need to be 1/4-20 as someone stated they were hoping for. I'll take any thread as long as its strong enough.

I didn't know that about camera and tripod threads. So yeah it will probably be that then. I just don't see any anchor points at the end or any allotment on the dash. Here's to hoping they have it.I think that the 1/4 20 is fairly common in the camera accessory world so there will be lots of thumbscrews, brackets, and other items on the market. One of the folks heading to a Dealer Event might be able to look and see.So I know that the USB power on the dash only comes in the Lux package, but does anyone know if the hole for the USB outlet is still there on lower trim levels? Even if it is not necessarily wired and it is just a hole with a cover. I've watched a bunch, if not all, of the walkaround videos and can't find a good view of the top of the dash in a Black Diamond or lower trim.
I'm hoping to just buy a USB outlet on Amazon and install it on the dash and would prefer not to drill a big hole myself. Attached images show the USB outlet on a First Edition, and the outlet I would like to install in my Black Diamond.
A slight built in 'bow' to the rail will press the feet to the dash when tightening the center bolt. Also, no need to hope they use a standard thread. They will, but I don't know why it would need to be 1/4-20 as someone stated they were hoping for. I'll take any thread as long as its strong enough.
