For this type of vehicle there's no need for a non refundable deposit.I hate to point out the obvious but... Why would you bother collecting a deposit if it’s refundable?
Ultimately you have the choice to shop other dealers, decide if the trade off of increased travel time is worth it to you to avoid a deposit. But I don’t understand getting upset with a dealer for doing totally normal practices to protect their business.
The dealer would be able to turn around and sell it in an instant so If the buyer walks they will have another by the next day.
So in this situation, the dealer is essentially double dipping. They are keeping the $1000 deposit as a "penalty" to the person that bails on the deposit. Then they are turning around and selling the exact same vehicle with a huge mark-up to someone off the street because now they can do that.
