My Bronco developed the cam phaser rattle at about 6k miles. I dropped it off at the dealer and they confirmed it was the issue.

However they said they have never heard about this in the new broncos and have to ask ford how to proceed. So they sent me home and said I could drive it as usual till they call me back.

It's been 2 weeks and the noise it getting worse, and happening more frequently not just at cold starts!

Anyone else been sent home with an issue?
Should I stop driving it?

It’s a known issue with an SSM for this exact concern, which @BigHoof posted.
Seems pretty straightforward on how to proceed.
Print it out and bring it to them, since they’re obviously clueless.

Welcome to the party, pal.

What was your build/delivery dates? Mine failed at about 6000 miles as well. It has been 3 months for me waiting for parts and nearly 6 for service. Ford Coorporate is worthless even though this has been a known problem in 2.7 for a decade in the f150.

I did a deep dive in the part iterations months ago and there have been 3 and 2 iterations of the front and rear dual over head cam phaser parts.... ford considers the failure rate acceptable losses and will put the same exact parts in when they do the warranty repair.

Personally, I feel abandoned by Ford and there is likely grounds for a class action suit since ford just treats these as burn rate on some line item quarterly report to investors.

Good news is that it does not seem to be a wear issue and driving the vehicle with the cam phaser issue does not appear to be causing "other" problems.

I just tell people I have the only diesel bronco when I start it and try not to be too embarrassed that my brand new 60k vehicle that I told everyone about for 3 years during my pre-order wait is a piece of shit built by a company that makes it clear they hate me as a customer.

Anywho, keep me updated on your progress as things develop and happy to answer any questions from my experience. Search the forum, there are a few others in here going through the same crap as us.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! It was delivered in March, but I never got a build date, it's a whole other issue I had... I ordered a Wildtrack and after 2 years was told to change my order if I ever want a Bronco delivered. So when I changed to OBX and a color oftered since '21 I got my Bronco in 3 months! Suspiciously fast and no new car smell either!!! I feel like it was a 2021 they pulled off mud mountain when I changed my order and just swapped the numbers around... I need to find the build date stamped on the engine block to be sure.

Please pull that line date. I have been wanting to out a spread sheet together of the reported failures and see if I can draw a corelation. They mostly seem to be mod/late 2022 builds with the issue and I would like to see if the data supports that theory.

March 2022 build for me and phasers failed at 34k miles. Replaced at 36k miles after 5 week wait on parts.

I have a buddy with a raptor that had them done, for his truck it was the second cam phaser replacement in its lifetime but the dealer told him to drive it as is until the parts came in. He towed his camper and everything, just got bad mileage. When the parts came in and they tore into it, it had tore up the cams, requiring replacement of the cams and a couple followers in that head.

It was all covered under his extended warranty though.

Powertrain warranty is 5 yrs, 60,000 miles so would of been under the standard warranty all Bronco's come with.
