Did Ford make a mistake bolting the spare directly to tailgate?

It's been brought up before, all that weight... Especially a 35...on that swing gate. Pretty sure Jeeps use a separate tubular hinged mount for the spare? And this opens up a lot of aftermarket cargo goodies to mount to it.
I really don't see this will happen with the Bronc, and that's a shame... And missed opportunity..

No - Jeep spares are mounted to the swing gate OEM. There is a heavy spare upgrade. Then come the aftermarket on gate, and separate swing arm mounts. Ford is doing the same thing. I would assume the gate is rated for 35's but the "does Sasquatch reinforce the swing gate" question is a good question.

As I said in another thread Wayalife was sporting a rear "stinger" pipe coming out of the hitch receiver to protect thier spare. Need to find one of those.

No. That’s how you do it. I would be annoyed if I had to swing my tire out of the way to get to my swing door.

I believe the Sasquatch will either upgrade to a heavy duty mount or Ford designed it so all hinges can support the 35. It would be wise for ford to due that because that leaves extra money in our pocket to spend on their accessories

Paul Wraith talked about this in an interview the other day. Basically having a separate tire carrier and swing gate or tail gate makes putting stuff in the back a huge pain in the ass in the tests they did. They tried versions with both and the swinggate+tailgate accessory is by far the most convenient combination.

The tire mounted to the swing gate is preferred as the swing away spare tire carrier that was on the original Bronco tended to rattle due to extended use

Also - the swing out tire on the Bronco II eventually cracked the tailgate at the latch point. Fewer moving parts = fewer points of failure.

The Bronco II had a fiberglass tailgate if I remember correctly, didn’t it?

Rear view camera drove that decision

It can't be a separate swing away holder because then the camera would also have to be mounted on the same swing away holder

That camera really is going to mess with people, guys that want a spare tire cover, guys that want to relocate the spare.....
