I have a somewhat unique take on A51. I saw the BL A51 at Bronco Cel East. I loved what I saw. It was a blueish-gray color. This represents best what my eye saw Cel East:

Today, I saw an A51 Bronco Sport in person. It looked totally different in person. It had a much darker tone and more greenish. Here is a picture of that Sport:

The point I am making is that I saw both vehicles in person. The colors were significantly different. My question is, have they changed the formula or is A51 on the Sport different from the regular Broncos. I would like to know since I am strongly considering A51. I will say I much preferred the one I saw in TN at Celebration East.

The government is forcing auto manufacturers to put in an infrared reflective chemical into the clear coat so new vehicles are easier to spot with nightvision and that's what causes the color shift.

This is one of the Sports I saw this weekend. All 4 pictures are the exact same car. The shaded backside looks crazy different than the areas in sun.

Definitely ambient conditions caused the difference.
some colors will have “variants” that body shops will use to get an exact paint match but it would be nothing the naked eye would ever see from vehicle to vehicle.

Smaller scale finishing (of which I have been part of for 20 years) has a large human factor involved. It is actually far more difficult to get identical matches than you think. If one part of the process is simply done lighter or heavier it will change the color of the final product. Or if the paint is simply not stirred during the process, items sprayed with the first paint out of the can will be lighter than those sprayed with the bottom part of the can (as the pigments settle and are more concentrated at the bottom). There are many more factors than just the formula involved. I’d like to think Ford would have some of those issues under control, but when humans are involved anything is possible.

Almost all of the body panels on a Sport are curved and the full size is mostly flat slab sided panels. I custom painted vehicles for 20 years and the vehicle will make a difference in how it reflects light. A catus grey will probably look similar on either vehicle but colors like AMB , CO , Rapid Red and A51 will not give the same effect on the Full size Bronco as you see on the Sport.
It's just the way it is folks.

I think you will always see slight variations of it depending on the conditions of light outside and like other posters said, I think you will see variation differences between the 2 and 4 door. It’s really an interesting color. If you get bored with it wait for a cloudy day.?

The first was not a production model, so, who knows what paint they used. The color on the production Sport more closely matches the color swatches in the Ford 2021 Exterior Color pamphlet you can pick up at a Ford dealer.

I think there are many factors. He looks can change a lot with the lighting. I also think that a color that does not look good on the bronco sport might look good on you 2 or 4-door bronco. Also, to me some colors look better on the two door than the four-door and vice versa.

I think the color shift is really cool on this and Cactus Gray.My wife’s blue Audi goes from medium blue to nearly black depending on light conditions. There have been times that I don’t recognize her car when passing by in opposite directions to and fro our house.

My white truck is always white and it’s kind of boring...
