@Discount Tire told me they wouldn't install the rebound pro for me just yesterday after a week of waiting. We ordered them, they said it they're no problem, but when I showed up for my appointment they said they can't install them...

I ended up ordering a set of Recon SLX that they price matched from Custom Offsets, but I can't tell you how disappointed I was. I already paid for the new wheels and rims too.

Anyone ever had this happen? I don't want anyone in trouble but I waited a while for them to show up only to be told no, which they should have done up front.

I mean, did you push for an answer as to why they did not want to install them?

If I had to guess, it's the liability of needing to set all those little screws to hold the tire. They're not a hugely risk-taking corp.

@35tires, was that in North Texas? They should've said something, but perhaps they didn't realize what they were or just decided when they saw them they didn't want to mess with them. I've talked to a couple people who had trouble with getting Method Bead Grip's serviced because they can be hard to remove the tire from the rim.

I would somewhat expect shops to be similar re: any real or partial bead lock tech. Best bet would be an off road shop that does tires.

Likely a size/offset difference from what's listed on the door sticker.

This goddamn country is so incredibly horny for self serving lawyers.. if they deviate from what's listed on the door sticker they open themselves up for lawsuits should the wind blow the wrong way.

Had the same problem at Discount Tires with Black Rhinos on my F150 Raptor. Said they don't do beadlock wheels due to liability as beadlock are not street legal by the DOT. Also wouldn't mount my 37s because they aren't "rated" for the Bronco. Manager was quite apologetic, but corporate is risk averse. Took them to my local guy and he took care of things.

Discount Tire wouldn't rotate the tires on my son's car, he wanted the rear tires moved to the front, as those tires had more tread for winter front wheel drive traction. Apparently they quoted some policy about tread depth, but the result was he ended up driving with a less safe setup.

The DT in the NT town I used to live would put 40's on Jeeps and pickups. There's thousands of dollars in those setups. My neighbor also had DT install 35" Recon Grapplers on his wife's JK. So there must be some management discretion.

They said specifically because of the bead grip style system. I was getting stock size tires, just new rims and some at4ws because I like them on my 4Runner (which I bought from themā€¦)

In my retirement I work for a car collector managing his rather large collection. We use a local Discount Tire here for many of his vehicles, that includes high-end Corvettes among others. We have never had a problem with them, always great service. I have also used them personally for my CTS-V and Roush Mustang and I too have nothing but positive things to say about my experiences with them.

Having said all that and to your question, we once took a modified Colorado ZR2 there to have TPMS sensors installed in the aftermarket Beadlock capable wheels that were on the truck. Initially they thought we had beadlocks on the truck and wouldn't touch it. Upon informing them that we didn't have beadlocks on the truck, they went ahead with the installation.

If I recall correctly there were concerns about liability and the fact that beadlocks aren't a DOT certified street tire.

I think they're franchises....some are great, some not so much. I'll never forget pulling in one day with a leak and they asked if I had an appointment. Had to laugh and then got pissed, like if I knew when I'd have a leak, I could have set one......

But another one took me in no problem and did great work and didn't try to rip me for anything extra.

They've done me a solid a couple times on repairs, and I had never even bought from them. When I picked up my Wildpeak RT01s I went round and round with them on the Sasquatch faux-beadlock ring. They insisted they needed to remove it and kept breaking their tools trying to do so. I had the service manager at my Ford dealer call them and tell them its fine to leave it on. I'm probably ordering wheels very soon I am thinking I'll just have someone else do the swap.

I skipped ahead, but the short version is that bigger chain places like Discount Tire are averse to anything that might be considered their liability. So it was likely due to either the rims weren't rated to handle the weight of your Bronco (highly unlikely) OR they didn't want the liability of setting any special features on the rims that could potentially cause damage.

Case in point, I had an '03 F350 XLT CCSB SRW 4x4 years ago. The chrome steel wheels were suffering from road salt and leaking, so I got a set of aluminum ones off a similar year Lariat. Tried to get Discount Tire to just swap the rims out (put my existing tires on my new rims and put them back on the truck) because they were just down the road. They refused, because the tires I had on my truck 'weren't rated for the capacity of the truck' which was 100% BS despite their computer telling them so. See, their computer presumes (or did at the time) that ALL F350s are longbox duallies, so they won't put tires on one that don't meet that weight spec. My non-dually didn't, but they wouldn't go against their computer.

I ended up making the time on a weekend to head down to the store that originally put the tires on for me and having them do it. I was in and out in half an hour.
