Thoughts on mounting square led light directly to the Bronco bolt without a bracket? If I'm only mounting one light on each side I don't see the need in a bracket. Plan to put some felt left over from splash guard to prevent scratching the plastic.

Exactly, does this illuminate the hood a lot and loose some of the lights capacity? Badlands have the lights on the mirror for up close so could focus outwards more, just don't want a lot of glare from the front end being lighted.

The bracket raises the lights a bit and reduces glare on the hood

It really depends on your light and how you have it aimed. Give it a try without the bracket first and see if you are happy with it.

With my SS5 lights, I do get a little glare on the hood but to me it isn't a overbearing.

Can you shoot a pic of your SS5 ditch lights.

Was between these and the SS3's and was worried the SS5's were too large

Just took these pictures inside the garage so not best:

I will also add this:

I had the SS3 Pro before these SS5 Sports. Both are the combo pattern and I feel the SS3 might of shined slightly farther (My guess is due to being the Pro) but the SS5 broadcast lighting for up-close (my guess is due to having more LEDs with the SS5). Overall I'm happy with the SS5. Depending on what comes next year with the Laser lights, I might change them out again.

That's how Diode Dynamics SS3 and SS5 are installed. They don't need an additional bracket. Even Baja Designs S1, S2, Squadron lights don't require a bracket.

Baja DOES include an off-set bracket which is usefull for their XL/LP series lights, so the light doesn't hit the antenna.

But as I said, not required with the above setups.

Be sure to grab the lights from us this week!

Awesome, thanks for the good pics. Helped a lot, I'll start with mounted direct first and go from there.

Ditch lights are generally not meant to be aimed straight ahead but angled to the side so that they illuminate the actual ditch. You shouldn’t have an issue with glare on the hood if they’re angled that way.

That said, I have mine mounted straight to the bronco bolts and aimed straight ahead. The light isn’t very efficient that way. Currently looking at bracket options to raise it up a bit.

Actually they can be used in either or. Some people call them "ditch lights" some call them "pillar lights" but they can be used for forward lighting OR side (ditch) lighting.

If you get spots and aim them down the road, they are very efficient.
If you get spots and aim them to the side, not so efficient.

If you get floods and aim them down the road, not efficient. BUT
If you get floods and aim them to the side, efficient.

So it's all about your intended use and what pattern you go with.
