Good vid, nice refresher.

So is the consensus to just ignore the oil life meter and pick an interval? Looks like yours was at 46%.

I'm notorious for changing my oil much earlier than I really need and honestly could have waited. I'll typically run about 5,000 or 6 months between oil changes. These modern synthetics are good for 7,500-10,000 miles. Some claim even longer, but I won't risk it.

I would still reset it for warranty purposes. Assuming Ford keeps a digital reciept of this somewhere, it could be used as evidence that you were not changing the oil. I also keep a log book of everything I ever do to the Bronco. Maintenance, MODs, etc with dates completed and all products used.

I generally go 7k between oil changes and 5 tire rotations.

I’ve been on a free maintenance plan Ford gave me and hadn’t changed the oil myself yet. Anyone using the Ronin or UPR plug with a hose and has skid plates and is able to drain without dropping the skid plate? I’ve got full RCI belly skids and would like to be lazy.

Aw, makes sense. Did my first at 2,500 and am planning every 5,000 or annually, whichever comes first as I don't put any commute miles on it and don't really even drive it daily.

The oil life meter must work off more factors than just mileage. Said 17% at my first change (10 months in) and I'm at 26% now with 1,200 to next (which will be about a year and 5,000).

Nice vid, great info for anyone DIY! I am all about DIY but I am also a long time service director for Ford so I find some of the comments interesting. Who is paying $120 for an oil change? I'm $59.95 for just an oil change, $79.95 for a works package, no not full synthetic but even my full synthetic is under $100 bucks, I am the cheapest in town for a reason, I want your business and I want to earn your trust so when you do have a concern you know you can trust us to help. Heck I even give a $10 discount if you schedule your service with my mobile van.

DIY is great but in supporting local businesses hopefully you aren't talking about Wal-Mart where oil is the cheapest, Amazon or others, that isn't giving back to the community or even the AutoZone's etc...that goes back to corp. America. True mom and pop local town auto parts stores have higher costs, if you are paying those, kudos to you for supporting, I love that, but we also live in a smaller town here just North of San Antonio so I totally support that.

Devils Advocate....Who has bought their own oil and filter and brought it to the dealer so you have a record of it plus put in it what you want at your discounted price? Then you also don't have to deal with driving to dispose of the old oil and filter which we always say we are going to do until the wife screams about all the buckets in the garage. I charge $20 bucks to change your oil if you bring it to me for example and I dispose of it. I am sure others are more (or less) but who has really asked?

Just food for thought. Not to hijack as I am a DIY guy too but I also support what I do for a living and my business is supporting my brand, dealers always get a bad rap. "Happy people tell 1, pi$$ed off people tell 10" but those 10 are usually the bandwagon who haven't even dealt with that business.

I did the convert your Ford pass points for the first 2 services on my '23. The real difference is when a DIY'r does it he cares about the service and takes the extra time to do it 100% right, that isn't the case with dealers. This isn't just Ford I see the same thing with my GMC and Toyota and have for 4 decades! Back to Ford the 2 oil changes were done and for 1 week after both I had oil drip onto my driveway, the 2nd wasn't as bad as I figured it would drip again from half ass service and tried to clean it up when I got home but still had drips on driveway. They also didn't add enough oil on the 1st and I had to put in an additional quart, oil level is a 2 second check.

Not bashing your response or dealership or great deal @$59 but the only service the dealer does to any of my vehicles is something I can't do myself.

Thanks for the response, don't take it as a bash trust me, been doing this too long to take anything personal and I again totally agree with you and the DIY! I have also seen the DIY guy who thinks he can do it, can't and it ends up here for warranty after the fact. Or the DIY guy that has never done it get wadded up with too much information and mess something up. Trust me we screw up too as we are human just like the DIY guy too.

My fav. was always the spark plug changes in the 5.4 Triton motors. IYKYK.

I can only speak to my personal experience. I have paid $120 plus from Ford dealers in Florida for a full synthetic oil change. In those situations, I had limited time (either before a road trip or slammed with work). In those scenarios, I chalked up tge excess price as my cost for convenience, as my truck was already in the shop undergoing in-warranty repairs.

I can't speak to what the rest of the dealers in America are charing their customers, but I would hope the family owned dealerships are focused creating repeat business, customer loyalty, and serving their communities.

I will note that most of these I visited personally were owned by "larger groups" whose focus is not on customer loyalty and fairness, but rather the almighty dollar.

I'll also add that I've had more stripped out oil pan bolts and damaged oil pans that I'd care to admit in the service drive of a Ford dealer. And it was always obvious that an impact gun was used to put the bolt back in, likely by some lazy or inexperienced lube tech.
An impact on a drain plug? I'm surprised you would still have an oil pan!

Ronin drain plug installed on the OBX the other day for the win! Finally price was right on Amazon and I was able to purchase 1 ea. for the Bronco and my '21 F150 for less than what I paid for the one I got way back for my '18 F150.
