Thanks for the writeup and the pics. I did have a question on powering the dashcam. Did you cut the cigarette lighter end off the supplied cable and just add the wire taps? Thanks!

Just started the install of my Blackvue DR750X-3CH Plus, and thought I'd share a picture of the panel under the steering wheel opened (to access the fuse panel) so folks can see what they're up against. Fuse panel is top left. Note the light blue tabs you will be pulling out and popping back in. The headlight and other controls mounted in this panel are connected with long wire harnesses, so you don't need to worry about them. I just started pulling from the left and right edges of the opening under the steering column and worked my way outward, popping the pins out. They were stiff, but came out with a few good tugs.

This is exactly the picture I needed. Mine is not budging but this helps me to understand what I am up against! Thank You tjnoffy

You're welcome. This is why we're all here, right? Just grab the left and right sides of the opening under the steering column and pull. 🙂

No. The lighter outlet power cord isn't used for this install. There is a separate power cable with bare wires at one end. Those connect to the fuse panel taps shown in this solution. Does that help?

It looks like the OP attached his own green wire instead of using the supplied black power cable (which splits to constant, aux, and ground). Is there a reason for this? The supplied power cable that would go to the fuse box is 14 feet long. I see no reason not to feed that down to the fuse box. Am I missing something? I have the Blackvue DR900x dashcam but not the bronco yet.

Ahh that's what confused me, when I open the camera box I was expecting a green cable as in the original pictures. and yes there is the correct cable in the box. In the excitement of opening the box I placed the cable to the side and misplaced it , found it tho! Thanks again for the reply.

OP here. Green wire was an extra wire I ran for future upgrades as I have a radar detector on windshield too. I did these at same time to save a step. I thought I mentioned this in writeupnso sorry about any confusion. At this point its not being used at all since I did go with mirror tap for radar detector.

Thanks for the explanation. So, was the original wire that split into acc, bat, & ground long enough to get from the mirror to the fuse box? Or was it too long? If so, what did you do with the extra length? Cut it or wrap it up and hide it somewhere?

Yes, plenty long and I did have extra. I put most of it in that black plastic housing that covers the forward facing factory camera! I terminated the green wire in there too for future proofing. I think more wire could also be tucked back in the headliner in certain places, especially if you remove the right bolt holding the sunshade in place. I think you could put more wires back in there and they reattach the bolt to hold them up there.

Great. Thanks. I'm glad there's plenty of room to stash the extra wire. I didn't want to have to cut it.

Finally had the chance to install the Dashcam. Thought I would drop some pics to help others out. I did the best I could with the wiring to the back window. It definitely helps to have a fish rod. The cam wire is easily removed from the rear roof if I want to go topless. I used the Blendmount for the front cam but took the middle link out to get it higher.

Very helpful, especially for that rear area. I still haven't ventured back there!

Is this the correct way to connect the ground wire? I was trying to figure out how to run this to the battery last night…
That's all you need. That ground wire does not need to go to the battery directly. Just pick a screw that is attached to metal. That should ground it to the chassis. The chassis is grounded to the battery.

Another rookie / not-an-electrician question — how exactly did ya’ll connect the fuse taps to the wiring harness?
I soldered mine and used shrink tubing to protect it. The fuse taps come with bullet connectors. You can just use those.

I went with the Blackvue 750XLTE Plus. Installation went well but I have come across 2 problems.
1. The Blackvue app is not good. Its not intuitive but more importantly it does not reliably connect to my phone. Lasted Firmware that I installed yesterday seems to help though.
2. SIM card does not seem to work with AT&T. I was on the phone with Blackvue and then with At&T. I even spent hours at the AT&T store trying 5G and 4G cards. We could not get this to work.

If anyone has a solution or has AT&T and it works for them, please let me know. I may have to get service with T-Mobile or use a hot spot. Very frustrating.
