DIY rear bumper build

Started working on my bumper this weekend. My bumper will have an integrated hitch. Should give me a little extra clearance on my departure angle. Made out of 1/8” plate. Should be done fairly soon because most of the design is done and just need to use my templates to cut the other side.

Nope, I’m not that advanced yet. I am saving my templates and my brother is talking about converting them to CNC plasma cut them out as a kit for other people.

The integrated hitch is brilliant! The lighter Broncos can likely carry far more than 3500lbs. Would be great to have a strong hitch. Sell that thing!

Pretty much done fabricating and now just a bunch of welding. Hopefully painting tomorrow. The part in the middle of the bumper unbolts for the nuts on the rear most cross member for the trailer hitch mount.

Nice job! I always like to see what other welder/fabricator types are doing.
I'm glad you kept one level surface (near the wheel well), you know, to set a beer or other beverage on.

Well I don't think I fooled anybody with the red primer...I thought someone might. Went with black to match fender flares and wheels. One thing I never took a pic of when I was building it is the loops for safety chains for a trailer for the a future project I have planned. I have been paint this in my basement to keep the paint in the temperature the paint can says it needs to be. I don't know what would happen if it I didn't. Might try and put it on tomorrow evening after work. Next project is going to be relocating the rear license plate. I may do a temporary mount with my new receiver hitch until I figure out what I want to do permanently. I was thinking about making a bracket off of the empty lugnut holes on the spare tire.

Got the bumper on and I think it looks pretty good. Needs a little touch up paint and some bolts for the center cut out.
