Do you guys think future larger engine option might increase tow capacity?

Hey Guys,

The Bronco shows a tow capacity of 3500lbs, but I would love a future option that might tow a four or 5000 lbs. I did notice the tow capacity is the exact same for both the 4 and 6 cylinder, so I am guessing that is all the frame, suspension, etc. can handle? A lot of this is guessing, but if the future Bronco does get a Raptor engine, etc. do you guys think there is any chance the tow capacity increases?

Why would that help if there's no difference in towing capacity between the 2.3 and 2.7? The 2.3 in the ranger can tow up to 7500 lbs

No, both the 2.3 tows more in the Ranger, and the 2.7 in the F150. It is the springs made for articulation. At some point I figure they’ll do a max tow version with rear suspension and cooling adjustments, and maybe bigger brakes.

Probably not. Frame, suspension, and tires are the main limiting factors.

No. The 2.7 EB in the F150 can tow like 8000 pounds. The bronco is limited by its suspension, height and length.

bigger engine has nothing to do with the towing capacity.

That's why the Jeep Gladiator can tow more than the Wranglers they went to different suspension and rear axel.

All the above are correct, and the differences are likely due to the SAE j2807 procedure. For vehicles under 8600 lbs GVW, the vehicle must use EPA mass, wheelbase, unsprung weight, ride height, and many other factors that you can feel free to look up. Way too much to unpack and one thread!

Nope. Horsepower is not the limiting factor. Suspension, brakes, and center of gravity are what holds it back.

I don’t think it will ever be made to tow that much more, it’s just not one of the attributes of a Bronco, just like a Mustang GT or hot air balloon won’t ever tow 7500 lbs.
