Yep. Funny for me though, I seem to remember a bit different where I would stop, move to neutral and set PB, then release foot brake and allow the vehicle to settle. Then apply foot brake and move to park.
I remember our instructor mentioning this procedure but specifically when we were in 4x4 so as to release the tension that gets built up.

Just a few minutes into this video Jason covers this subject. I thought it a great tip to share!

I've been doing that procedure my entire driving life. Neutral, parking brake, then park.
Course now that I have a manual......

In some of the offroadeos (they never told us at mine in Moab oddly), they've been telling people to put it in neutral, set the parking brake, then put it in park. I suppose the idea is you put less stress on the transmission's parking pall.

Personally I think it's unnecessary for most situations when you're on relatively flat ground. Makes sense when you're parked on a hill, and obviously that happens a lot when you're offroading. So i see why they do it at the offroadeo, as they don't want to wear them out.

Also I don't think it's totally necessary to put it in neutral first. As long as you keep your foot on the brake until the parking brake is fully engaged, there shouldn't be any difference with just putting it straight into park. I think they tell you to put it in neutral first at the offroadeo as a sort of error proofing so you don't put stress on the parking gear and then lock that stress in with the parking brake.
Oh... I've been doing that for years in the automatic vehicles I've owned. The neutral thing seems redundant but whatever teaches people I guess.

Mines a manual so I don't have to worry about it in the bronco.

Curious if people are using the procedure for going to Park described in the Off-Roadeo? Seems to be some very sound logic behind it, and think I may start to use it on all vehicles.
I figured out that procedure the first time I parked on a 15% grade and almost could not get the car out of park. That was in 1978. Been doing it ever since.

Great question. The experts at the Vegas Off Rodeo taught me and recommended this process. I try to use it, but honestly, sometimes I forget and don't use the P-Brake. Its hard for me to remember, but am getting better. The truck does "settle" a bit.

I agree on flat ground it is probably overkill...but could find benefit even when parking on the slope of a driveway.

I think the neutral before parking brake takes the chance of stress out of the driveline. I definitely experienced the vehicle "settle" a bit in neutral after setting the parking brake and then releasing the 'foot' brake. Then the move from neutral to park was smooth as butter.
I've done this (or similar) for years. Ever since I had a sloped driveway I never liked the pressure on the Transmission and now its just habit.
I usually stop, pull/push hand brake, shift in park (1st or R in Manual), shut off.

Never mind Park, what is C?
Crawler gear, basically a granny first gear not used in normal driving but gives more control on rocks.

That’s what I thought. Just hadn’t seen it before.

I learned this at the Off Rodeo too and use it everyday. My driveway is a 5 percent grade and it works great. And despite all the hate, I like the e-brake, easy to use and effective as long as you have battery juice.

Also been doing neutral -> park / parking brake on my vehicles (manual and automatic). It's just habit now.

Here is how I park a car:

I stop the car.
I shift it into first.
I turn it off.
(if I am in a rush, I might turn it off, then shift to 1st)

If I am parked on a hill I might remember to put on the parking brake, but I haven't had to park on a real slope in a decade or more.
