We use a ground tent most of the time, do have a slide in camper too, but it doesn't go on the fun adventures as much any more. It's great tent (Gazelle), super easy to set up and tear down, but it's not the smallest to carry, which is why I'm real interested in rack options (have a 4dr BL-SAS on order). Don't think I can fit inside, and even if I could it would be awkward to pack around. We tend to put the rain fly on, mostly out of habit though.

I do both actually. Wife prefers "glamping" so we have an RV and a toad to go all over this great land of ours. But I also love backpacking, and my kids love it too. Not all camper users are posers.

EDIT: when you compare the two, I must say glamping is more tenable for me. I just can't get a good night's sleep on the ground. Not sure why...I don't care how firm the place i sleep is, so that's not it. I just have never cracked the code on sleeping well "under the stars."
Simply a soft enough bedroll, can include ground pad....Enjoy!

I’m a tent on the ground kind of gal. I don’t see the appeal of the trailer campers, but also have been around a lot of people who like to use them as some kind of flex, some kind of status symbol in the driveway 🙄. I have similar feelings about the camper vans 🤮. Agree wholeheartedly that the trailer would likely limit the places I can get to! And if I see any of y’all out there you’ll get nothing but kindness and positivity from me!
LOL!!! My tent camper goes where the rig goes, no problem. Tent trailer keeps the wife camping, but she's got stage IV breast cancer. Only place I can't get to with the trailer is Wilderness areas and that's when the backpack comes out.

Whatever it takes to keep those memories coming, my friend.
Respect and well wishes to you and her.

When I was younger, yes. Nowadays, I sleep too terribly on the ground. My shoulders don't like it. LOL

However you chose to camp (full disclosure I have a motorhome) keep extraneous equipment to a minimum so your camping trip doesn't become an equipment management trip.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt friend. I’m in California and am just surrounded by too many “keeping up with the joneses” types and it’s obviously tainted my view on the matter. I’m glad you and your wife are able to get out and enjoy the best that nature has to offer no holds barred ❤❤ Much love.
