I tried to explain that to at least 3 guys at three different auto parts stores. None of them had TP bits once I had them show me all the Torx in the stores.
Yes, same. They looked at me like I was crazy and walked me around to all their different sets. "Here, this should work". NO, that won't.

Tried O'Reilly, Advanced Auto, NAPA, Auto Zone, ACE Hardware, Home Depot, Harbor Freight... Northern Tool has them in stock 100 miles away.

You need the *EDIT* TorxPlus TP-40 torx size which is not in the kit. I learned that last week installing my fog lights. Stupid not to include it but I was lucky to find one in another torx set before I was off to the hardware store.
The bumpers are NOT Torx PLUS, just regular Torx!

Warning! The bumper bolts are Torx TP-40, which is Torx Plus. They’re slightly larger than a standard T-40. I was able to do my bolts with a standard T-40 but it was a risk. I’m looking for the TP-40 driver but they are surprisingly hard to find.

Note that Torx Plus are NOT what some people think - there are also tamper-proof Torx drivers which get sold as the oversize Torx Plus ones.
No they are not, they are regular Torx!

T = Torx
TT = Torx Tamper-Resist
TP = Torx Plus

"T-40", "TT-40", or "TP-40", will be stamped right on the bit.
You would think it would be so simple.
However, I have two tamperproof Torx 40s in my hand right now that have 'TP40' clearly stamped right on them...even though they're clearly not that.

Lowes. 100%, they'll have them.
Mine sure don't, and neither does their web site, apparently.

Negative, my friend.

The Bronco bolts on the Heavy Duty Modular Front Bumper are TP40 (Torx Plus 40). A standard Torx 40 bit (T40) and a TP40 bit will both fit in a TP40 bolt, but the T40 will fit loosely and is more likely to cam out, so is often used in field repairs if the proper tool is not readily available. The TP40 bit fits better and should be used, if available.

The photos below confirm that the Bronco bolts are actually TP40, since a Torx Plus bit will NOT fit in a standard Torx bolt. (Apologies for all the mud.)

I have those bits! They will fit the security screws on your license plate if you use those. :D
Well I stand corrected! I'll have to start looking for that type of screw so I can use my tools! 😁

I agree that Ford used a mixture of Torx and Torx Plus fasteners throughout the Bronco, and the correct bits for the beauty ring bolts on the Sasquatch wheels are standard T45. (I have personally used my own standard Torx T45 bit on them when I removed them.)

However, both this thread and my post above are specifically addressing the Bronco bolts on the Heavy Duty Modular Front Bumper. (Go back and read my post again, and then read the thread title again.)

If you are still in doubt, feel free to prove me wrong by posting photos of a Torx Plus TP40 bolt NOT fitting snugly in the Bronco bolts on the HD Modular Front Bumper.
