We definitely secure our dogs with harnesses and love to take the dogs out without issue. Of course our Wrangler is an 07 two-door and we haven’t been able to get the doors off. We ordered a two-door Badlands and plan to continue taking the dogs out with top off. Hopefully the harness we have in the garage will be compatible with removing the Bronco top.

Super simple and safe tie rope at the bottom of roll bars where they meet the floor, then attach a short slider to that rope .Measure so critter cant jump out or fall out ,put a strong clasp on the end of that and your good to go. Cheap easy 5.00 fix that has worked for 35 years and 5 dogs.
If the bronco does not have something to tie down two eye bolts work.

We have 2 Greyhounds
I am not sure about taking them off-roading, but they love riding in the Escape.

I used to take my Rottweiler 4-wheeling all the time. She loved it. I had Raingler nets, she had a chest harness and was hard attached to a seat belt point

Made the mistake of letting my mom's bernedoodle sit in the front to go to the store around the corner when he was a puppy. Now, no matter where he starts in the Jeep he finds his way to the front as soon as I stop at a light. :ROFLMAO: It's not a huge deal because he's really only in the car with me when I am going down the street, but he will never go for a ride doorless because he get's too excited for me to trust him not to try and jump out and hurt himself even if I tie a harness to the roll cage or a tie down in the back.

Maybe with a more mellow dog and a decent harness setup I would try topless, but I don't feel comfortable going doorless.

This is Arlo from the last time he jumped up front. He weighs 85 pounds.

I would say never use a retractable, last thing you want is that cable to come loose or detach and just horrible things.

But yes as stated there's lots of different harnesses and short leads with a carabineer you could attach to the MOLLE straps or the car seat hooks usually in the back. The strap and carabineer I bought was like $12
Exactly what I use. Carabineer connected to paracord type rope clipped to the car seat anchor and a end a dog leash clip connected to dog collar. You can make the rope however long you need it for the dog. And as a plus it works as a leash when you realize you forgot the real leash, lol.

I'm hoping the head room in the back will be okay for my Giant schnauzer. Looks like he's going to get a harness and we will start working on that attatched to a point in my trailblazer before we get to pickup my MY22... have a while to work on training. Glad someone started this topic! Great ideas in here :)

My 110 lb Rottweiler used to love riding in the Jeep wearing a dog seat belt. It was a full body harness that the vehicle seat belt ran through. The benefit other than him attempting to exit the vehicle, was that he was protected in the event it didn't keep the dirty side down. Assume the worst and plan for the best outcome, even if it means he had to learn to sit in a seat and be restrained. Kids don't usually have free run of the whole back seat for the same reasons. You couldn't keep that dog out of the Jeep, it was hers.

My two 90lb goldendoodles are currently only cruising in my MINI Cooper so they are going to be stoked about the Bronco 😁

I'm planning on harnesses with clips to the cargo tie downs so they can't jump.
