The gear ratios confuse me a bit. Anyone know , apologies if it has been answered, why they are coming with 4.7s? The raptors only come with 4.10s even with the new 37ā€ package.
I have an 18 raptor, my impression is that its the same trans. I realize raptor has significantly more power, but the rpms on the 2.7 have to be much higher.
higher ratio makes sense in bronco as my raptor cant hold freeway speed in a headwind without downshift. Rpms too low.

Anyways i know this isnt a raptor page but curious on the logic
This topic has been kicked a lot and there are some good threads in the Transmission/axle/gear forum. Lots of bad info too.

First rule is donā€™t judge adequate gears for one vehicle based on what a completely different vehicle has. There is no relevance to what a Jeep/Toyota/f150 etc has to proper Bronco gears. Different motors, transmission, weight, etc. Even if they use the same transmission it can have a different gear set for different applications.

The factory almost always goes on the high side to improve highway economy, plus most people are fine with poor performance. Very few of us actually want and appreciate a lower geared diff. I want to pull stumps, not hit the rev limiter, in my 4WD anyway.

I plan to put 4.88s or lower in at some point. Lower is almost always better in 4WDs. Besides, Iā€™ve had my years of driving the Autobahn and donā€™t care what top end is like in the Bronco. It will do most of itā€™s work under 35mph.

This is the BEST thread I've ever read! We need more of this!

OP keep the good information and thoughts coming. But just to be clear, it is okay to put bigger wheels and tires on a Non-Sas, right?

Even if you just go to the mall sometime you need bigger tires

If you do offroading small the rim
Is better when you air down you need a tall side wall and also smaller the rim keep you to avoid hitting rock on your rimšŸ˜ as you mention earlier 20inch rim only for the mall but 17 is ok for offroading

Wow.... 3 pages!
Not even going to finish pg 1 ... lol
I thought the same when I scrolled down and saw four pages! Four!?! I must be feeling especially masochistic today to have sat through the whole thing so far. At first I thought this must not be the thread for me since I have half a clue that the only series that come standard with 3.73s are the four-door base and the two OBXs, but somehow I kept reading.

I will not recommend to remove the option of sasquash to get your Bronco sooner if you plan to upgrade for bigger tire down the road

Watch the video below before make your decision

The bronco come standard with 3.7 gear ratio i think .....

Depens the option you choose you will have better ratio for

The sasquash gear ratio is 4.7 and it design to support 35 inch tire this is very inportant when you do offroading

Down the road upgrating tire size can be costly if done correctly see the second video to have a idea what ot look like to regear to the proper ratio
EVEN if it was 3.7 gears it would be fine, i've been running my FJ Cruiser on 35s for 6 years on 3.73 gears, yeah it's not the best mpg wise, but does fine in trail. No need to panic...
