Door Sill

I guess I slide my boots over my driver's side door sill and there are deep scratches to the metal. No rust or anything just happened. I have damn door sill pieces but haven't installed them.

Since it just happened, do you reckon I can just use touch up paint with clear coat to touch it up before I cover it with the sill plate?

I just don't want it to rust while the sill plate is over it.

Wouldn't hurt to touch it up, but aluminum doesn't rust.
