Just saw that the top lift pro for the 2 door is delayed a bit.... so I thought what else can I try. Using an engine hoist? Rig something up to mount to the top of the hoist to go under the top and lift it up?? 🤔

I did something similar to remove the cab of a 1956 Ford pickup I was working on. Attached some 2x4's to the engine hoist/cherry picker. It wasn't pretty but it sure did the job. I had the cab on and off by myself several times.

The roll bar will foil your plans ... most likely.
Do you have a garage?
I rigged up a rope hoist and screwed around with cheap stuff until I just bought a proper Harken Hoist designed for doing this.
I have not installed it or had a chance to use it yet, but they have stellar reviews ... and a coworker has one, loves it.

No garage?
Build a tall "swing set" / gantry crane if you have the room and can get away with it. Drive under it and lift it with some type of hoist system.
The taller the better.
My garage ceiling is around 11' and I need every inch of that for the hoist , top etc etc in order to drive out from under it.

I received my 2 door Top Lift Pro two weeks ago, so they are definitely shipping. Try reaching out to customer service and ask what the lead time is for a new order.

To those who have removed the 2dr hardtop: I have a very low ceiling in the garage, is it possible to lift the top a foot or so and slide backwards? I'm thinking of mounting the hoist on a track so this would be possible. I have 18.5" from the top of the hardtop to the ceiling.

You only need to lift it about 4 inches to go back with it
there are some line up pins that need to clear when lifted then you can go straIght back with the top

Is the 2 door hardtop any different than the 4 door? I thought they were the same, and that the only difference between the 2 door and 4 door hardtops is the 2 door is 3 pieces and the 4 door has the extra "targa top" over the second row?

I ask because I don't know why you would need a lift specifically for the 2 door?

Also, another thought is you could get a rear cross bar roof rack to lift with.

It's getting there...
in the second pic you can see the holes at the ends of the 2x4s. Thoes will hold 3/4" pipes then another 2x4 on the other end to hold up the front of the top.

I will put this Part right behind the roll bar then stick the pipes in from the inside. Lift a few inches to clear the 2x4s and done!

Has anyone tried using a drywall lift and some straps to lift the top off?
