Do we know if the front turn signal is independent of the day time running lights? One of my newly founded pet peeves is that running lights now double as the front blinker on newer models with LED's.

I know, it is definitely a 1st world problem but I still want to know.

Yeah when one side DRL goes out in order to let the turns blink it looks pretty crappy IMO

That might be a good reason to stay to lower trim without the bonus led rings depending on how they work

I bet the FORScan tool will be able to disable this or change how it behaves. The f150 guys have figured out a bunch of different options for DRL’s with the factory LED’s. I have no doubt the community here will find all sorts of Easter eggs in the bronco version of the FORScan software.

I’m pretty sure there’s a federal law reguarding Led drl and blinkers ?. The drl has to go out so the turn signal is clearly visible to oncoming traffic if they are housed in the same unit
nope. on my vw golf R, the DRL doesn't dim when the turn signal is activated
(some folks actually will use VCDS to program in the non-factory 'winking' behavior)

the turn signal has be significantly brighter than the DRL for this to comply

So on the lower trims will the drl be the running lights/binkers or in the headlights?

it's a pet peeve of mine as well, looks unbalanced, I also don't like break lights turning into blinkers. Disturbs the visual balance to me, silly as that may be :-D

On my Mk7 Golf GTI (with the fancy LED lights package) the DRLs would turn off on one side when the turn signal was active. You sure you didn’t tweak yours? ?

I heard this was a federal requirement as well but possibly it’s like anything else on the Internet (wrong)!

Usually the DRL turns off to increase awareness towards the turning signal as if the white DRL was kept on when you put your blinkers on it'd be harder to notice unlike when the white light turns completely off and the notion of the amber light blinking becomes more prominent. Not every manufacturer does this since some chose not to house both in the same enclosure.

It does look goofy. Hopefully Ford takes advantages of one of the exceptions listed in that article.

We’re at the point where we’re complaining about things that’ll never be noticed when one is actually driving the vehicle. This is sad.

So on the lower trims will the drl be the running lights/binkers or in the headlights?
Usually on trims without a decorative running light, they use a lower powered output of the headlight.

the horizontal light on the lower models i believe it the signal and the drl. higher trims the drl is the halo ring and the horizontal light. don't know what turns off to make the signal though. in my volvo, the led light dims slightly and then flashes amber but doesn't turn off the drl. it just flashes amber instead so there isn't any lights turning off.
