Ford has yet to prove they can scale EV. If microchips and roofs were issues, battery supply will sink Ford. They have MBAs thinking they can just buy batteries and use the same process. It won’t work. They can built some cool prototypes like they have done but it won’t scale for a profit. They need to invest in new manufacturing, new staff expertise, new battery technology, etc. they are no where close. It’s not as simple as putting batteries in the same cars. EV is a different animal. I won’t believe it untill they have mass production. The mustang is very low volume.
As someone who lives in a state with a ton of copper mines, I do think people may be underestimating this aspect.
- "the wake up" - I guarantee you in a few years, all the greenies that pushed heavily for EVs will "suddenly" realize how bad the strip mining to get battery materials is for the environment, and will want to change things again.
