Do the 2.3L and 2.7L engines have identical bolt patterns? News of the manual transmission being restricted to the smaller engine makes me wonder if a swap is possible without a custom bell housing.

Apparently not. The 2.7 shares it with the larger engines. 2.3 with the smaller ones.

So what your saying is that we would be better served for 5.0L swaps if we got the 2.7?
Mmhmm. Or get 2.3 and stick and swap entire setup for 5.0/7.3 in 10 years

i think a 7.3 is way to big for a bronco. in terms of displacement.

I think itā€™s a better fit than the 5.0, lower end torque, doesnā€™t need to rev to 6k-7k rpm, and is narrower and about same weight

Haha 10 years? How long is powertrain warranty? 5 years 60k miles?

it will have a V8 by year 3, at 60k miles.
Well, I was estimating when you blow up the 2.3 and need to replace it.

Iā€™d prefer the 7.3l, but I donā€™t know if that trans would fit in place on the Bronco.

Think the Bronco tranny could handle the 7.3L torque curve?

The 2.7 bell housing pattern is common with Fordā€™s other V6 engines. The only manual available that will bolt up is the MT-82 from the 2011-up V6 Mustang. But thatā€™s not set up for 4x4.

The 2.3ā€™s bellhosuing pattern is common with the 2.0 and 2.3 Duratec and EcoBoost, along with Mazdaā€™s same displacement offerings since the EcoBoost was developed from the Mazda engine.

If I was V8 swapping, honestly, LS is your best bet. Short, narrow, big displacement for the package size. If you have to stay Ford, Iā€™d go Coyote. The 7.3 sounds cool in theory, but itā€™s a big heavy iron block 3/4-ton truck engine. Itā€™s sized between a small block and big block with larger bore spacing that the Coyote, so itā€™s longer front to back. Good luck squeezing the 7.3 and all its accessories into the length designed for a V6.

The Coyote is wider, but if you get creative with the headers you can fit it many places. People are squeezing them into ā€˜90s BMWs with minimal issues. The 2.7 width including turbos isnā€™t much narrower.
