At 77 degrees, Cruising at 75 up a slight hill, the water temp shot to 212F and climbed to 218 then back down to 208 for the rest of the 1.5 hr trip. I am used to seeing stock engines run around 185-190. Does anyone have this engine running kinda hot for you?

I've always ran with the thought 215 being fine on the max side of normal, newer engines are engineered to run on the warm side in the name of efficiency.

My F-150 with the 2.7 is always in the low 200's in the warmer months.

AC condenser usually dumps right in front of the radiator. So when it kicks on it's not uncommon to see a 10 degree jump in ECT.

Check all your fluid levels for a piece of mind.

I let it sit for about 30 min after getting home and looked to bleed the coolant system, but no bubbles. all fluids are right where they need to be and no chocolate milk in oil...had to check for S&Gs.

Thats not the point. A 4 banger running this "hot" just doesn't seem like normal. I am coming from 16 years of running LS motors over 600hp on boost, that never left the 190 area. I shouldn't have to upgrade the induction system, buy a different hood, and waste perfectly good coolant changing a thermostat on a daily driver. Id like to see if my hypothesis, of other 2.3L are running the same temperature, is conclusive to normal operation.

What does the owner's manual say is the normal operating temperature? Completely different vehicle, but for my Jeep TJ it is 210 degrees.

Under normal conditions - and not towing anything - that shouldn't happen. I've gone up some really long steep grades - e,g., Baker & Tehachapi grades - with my JL's 2.0T in 115 degree heat and the coolant temp hasn't changed a bit. Rock solid @ 192 degrees no matter the air temp, on road and off. Newer engines shouldn't fluctuate much under normal driving conditions.

Looks normal to me. If you are worried about it just continue to check the temp at the end of every one of your drives to compare but I doubt there will be much of a difference as long as there isn’t a leak
