"The lack of chips won’t stabilize until the second quarter of next year, with recovery coming in the second half, IHS said in a report Thursday. The grim outlook is further proof that the chip crisis is far from over. And the research firm’s forecast doesn’t include the latest cuts from Toyota Motor Corp., which plans to briefly pause output at 14 plants next month and slash production 40%."

“The situation is still fraught with challenges,” IHS analysts Mark Fulthorpe and Phil Amsrud wrote in their report. “We are also seeing additional volatility due to Covid-19 lockdown measures in Malaysia where many back-end chip packaging and testing operations are performed.”

My advice to all, for what it is worth: with the shortages, prices are only going up - as are finance rates. If you need a vehicle or a price, buy now. Don’t wait.

"Ford Europe’s Herrmann, meanwhile, estimates the chip shortage could continue through to 2024, adding that it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when it will end...

Beyond chips, there are now other shortages to contend with. Ford is facing a “new crisis” in raw materials...

“It’s not only semiconductors,” he said, adding that lithium, plastics and steel are all in relatively short supply. “You find shortages or constraints all over the place.”

Car prices will rise as the cost of raw materials goes up, Herrmann said."

Ford is going with Bronco Raptor after all, scratch the Warthog name.
I said that last week and of course got taken to task. That info supposedly came from a recent Ford sales meeting. Dealers couldn't take any pics, but got some new product info.

same article: "The shortage is thought to have been exacerbated by the move to electric vehicles. For example, a Ford Focus typically uses roughly 300 chips, whereas one of Ford’s new electric vehicles can have up to 3,000 chips."

since Ford struggles to produce the equivalent of a plastic garbage can lid...watching them go 'electric' promises to be Really painful.

The chips in electric vehicles is only a part of the problem. There are very real constraints in lithium supplied for the batteries… and with Chevy recalling every Bolt EV ever built due to battery fires, coupled with Government mandates to go electric, the demand for lithium has never been higher. This isn’t just going to be painful to watch, this is….. slow motion economic suicide. Enough EVs simply won’t be available, and those that are won’t be affordable…. But you will continue to be punished for using alternatives.

And to make you laugh, the Taliban now control a major, undeveloped, source of Lithium.
