Nothing about a VHF commercial radio is "CB" in either the US or Mexico.

You are correct! VHF "Very High Frequency."

Is there no way to replicate the Lowrance functionality on the Bronco display? What about displaying Gaia from my phone on the Bronco display? Of course, an external GPS antenna should help a lot.

It is possible to use Gaia and OnX GPS apps directly over the Bronco screen with the use of CarPlay; however, we have not found a way to utilize Lowrance yet.

Thanks for that, but that's too bad. Right now I use Gaia, but primarily for logging my hikes. It's easy to use, and a lot cheaper than Lowrance. I do realize that Lowrance offers additional features that I don't have on Gaia.

Lowrance is also more reliable and has better accuracy than the mobile apps. However, Gaia and OnX would suffice for most "on trail" use. We only found these apps to become problematic at high speeds.

How do the Garmin Overland models compare to the Lowrance?

We personally used the Garmin Overland model in our rig during this expedition. The unit worked great; except at high speed the GPS lost track of us a couple of times while going 70+ MPH. For average use and slow crawling / trail speeds I'd highly recommend the Garmin unit.

However, we'll be installing a Lowrance setup in our rig for our next Baja trip due to the high speed nature of the terrain.
