In 1978-1979 I was designing special edition Scouts for CVI. Custom Vehicles International was the exclusive source for Special Edition International Scouts for 1979-1980. Scouts were a tough sell against Bronco, Blazer and Ramcharger because women didn't like them as well. The owner of CVI also owned a T-Top company and I came up with a glass-panels T-Top Scout we could build for International called the "Sunriser". Clinic reviews indicated women loved it and it was planned for 1981, but Scout folded after 1980. I designed all the CVI Scouts including the Southeast Zone "Hot Stuff" short pickup and the "Terra Star". I patterned the Sunriser roof design like the "Shorthorn" Bronco I designed at Ford in 1972...

Wow!!! This is absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for sharing all of this. I have been obsessed with Scouts since i was 13 (now 30). I have never seen this special edition before. I thought the first couple of photos were a Scout Traveler at first. It would be amazing to come across a "Sunrider" top for my Scout. That top is awesome looking.

Proud to say as a designer with Ford Motor Company in the 1970's my design proposals were selected and approved at the Ford Design Center in Dearborn, Michigan by Ford Product Planning for the F Series based "Shorthorn" Bronco in 1972. The wide "B" pillar, wrap over roof band and parallelogram roof windows became key Bronco design features and were retained through the end of production in 1996. The original version was first released for production in 1978...

Mr. Nesbitt thank you for sharing your iconic creative designs! It's so cool to read all the info on the design teams you've been involved with, and to see all the work you've done come to production released vehicles! While my first vehicle was a 79 F150 4x4 shortbed (special ordered) truck, my passion for the 79 Bronco's was always real. I now have (6) 79 Bronco's in my collection. So obviously I LOVE your work/design on those!

Question, have you been involved or consulted with the design team of the new 2021 Bronco?

Again, thank you for your contributes and sharing of info! True legend!!

Mr. Nesbitt it's a pleasure to see you here. My first ever New car I bought was 79 Bronco. It was Candy Apple Red and Wimbledon White. Most beautiful vehicle ever built. Sadly sold it off when I started a family. Then in 2011 I found a 79 for sale and purchased it. Spent the last 9 years taking it apart and cleaning things and finally putting it back together. Just recently got it back on the road. Hoping to make it my daily driver soon.

If you subscribe to Bronco Driver magazine it's featured in the latest issue.

Many many thanks for your creative design. It's been a love affair since seeing the first 78.

Wow!! This is so cool to see. Was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I currently have a 1978 International Scout 2 that I'm trying to restore. Since your design was around the time of the Scout 2 hitting the market, was there any influence from it when it came to your design, or was it mainly focused around the Blazer? Thanks!
Almost makes me want to go out and buy the Scout II to hold me over until the Bronco comes out.

Thank you Mr. Nesbitt for creating such iconic designs of automobile history.
