Thanks for one of my most favorite vehicles, EVER!!!
If you don't mind me asking, how old where you when you came up with the design?
I wanted it to be as different from the Blazer as possible...

Mr. Nesbitt designed that as well, but thanks for the demoralizing opinion, means a lot from someone with kiddie pool fender flares on their vehicle.
OMG he insulted my flares that are needed to keep the truck somewhat street legal while useful! oh what-ever shall I do.

Man, people do design flops, and it isn't necessarily anything against them even. sometimes it is bad timing, sometimes it is outside pressure to do certain things. The M2 is widely regarded as the low point of mustang history (at least we avoided the FWD fiasco in the 80s...), but as I said, a lot of it was just a product of it's times. insurance and oil prices, 'the 70s' styling...

Wow!! This is so cool to see. Was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I currently have a 1978 International Scout 2 that I'm trying to restore. Since your design was around the time of the Scout 2 hitting the market, was there any influence from it when it came to your design, or was it mainly focused around the Blazer? Thanks!

Proud to say as a designer with Ford Motor Company in the 1970's my design proposals were selected and approved at the Ford Design Center in Dearborn, Michigan by Ford Product Planning for the F Series based "Shorthorn" Bronco in 1972. The wide "B" pillar, wrap over roof band and parallelogram roof windows became key Bronco design features and were retained through the end of production in 1996. The original version was first released for production in 1978...

True honor Mr. Nesbitt.... Very Nice Work Sir... I remember there being a reason the plan to replace earlier than 78 was ditched but it escapes me. I think it was development cost being spent elsewhere????
Always wanted to do automotive design. Kind of do something related for a living but as a teenager in the late 80's that was my real dream. Some of us were lucky to do it.

As a side note I did speak with Paul Wrath at SEMA this year. I was talking to him and the discussion was regarding the next Bronco. I noted that I loved the size of the original but the 78-79 were my favorite. He agreed that there was a lot of good things going on in those two years. It was only after our conversation ended that I got his business card.

In 1978-1979 I was designing special edition Scouts for CVI. Custom Vehicles International was the exclusive source for Special Edition International Scouts for 1979-1980. Scouts were a tough sell against Bronco, Blazer and Ramcharger because women didn't like them as well. The owner of CVI also owned a T-Top company and I came up with a glass-panels T-Top Scout we could build for International called the "Sunriser". Clinic reviews indicated women loved it and it was planned for 1981, but Scout folded after 1980. I designed all the CVI Scouts including the Southeast Zone "Hot Stuff" short pickup and the "Terra Star". I patterned the Sunriser roof design like the "Shorthorn" Bronco I designed at Ford in 1972...

The 1973-1974 OPEC oil embargo delayed the Shorthorn Bronco to 1978...

sad to see that that sunriser didn't come to fuition, I like it. get the removeable cap like the FSB but also open above the driver with a cage behind, almost completely open. Looks great.

Hot Stuff is very cool. If I was old enough back then I would have taken that. So would you say a little of the Hot Stuff made it into the CJ-8 Scrambler? ?
Honestly do not recall ever seeing a Hot Stuff but it predates the Scrambler I assume.
