I was at Tuweep last Labor Day. One of the two other vehicles there was a Jeep on tour, consisting of a man with his wife, teen daughter and dog. The man got out to relish the beauty of the spot, while the others remained ensconced in the idling A/C Of the jeep.

The man discovered them inside about 30 minutes later and lambasted them for not getting out and appreciating one of the most scenic spots on the planet. They sheepishly obliged.

My point is to get your family, especially your kids, into the great outdoors at an early age. If you don’t, there’s a pretty good chance they won’t have any appreciation of its soul-soothing effects.

My son started going with me at age 3. He knew how to buckle himself in and put on his 'ear covers' (i.e. noise protection). It was a great experience with him riding shotgun on trails. Great traveling companion.
