I just recently purchased a new 23' Bronco Raptor which of course is a 4 door (5 door really). I've driven both the 2 door and the 4 door off-road and there really isn't any noticeable difference in 4 wheel drivability even in difficult terrain.
Looking at just the numbers, the 4dr has a 116 in wheelbase and the 2dr is 100 in. The approach angles are identical and the departure angle is only 0.2 deg bigger on the 2 dr. These numbers definitely make it obvious that the 2 dr has a higher clearance for "high-center" situations, but other than that, not enough difference for even most experienced off-roaders to be affected. Put some 37's on the 4 door, get the same clearance now as a 2 door with 35's and better stability. The Raptor is noticeably wider at 85.6 inches vs 75.9 inches and you do feel that on the trail.....more side angle stability, less room in tight quarters.
Back in the early 80's I owned a 1971 Stroppe Bronco and that thing absolutely rocked off-road. It had a Detroit Locker rear end(factory) and a Gleason-Torsen front end (not factory), 44" tires, the 302 4 barrel and would climb or crawl nearly anything. I took it to the sand a few times down on the Oregon Coast and it rocked at high speed sand just as well. Of course I put smaller diameter paddle tires on it for that. I did break a few axles and differentials though.
I haven't done any serious off road with my Raptor yet but with it's factory equipment compliment, I am sure it will be an awesome performer. It's just hard to take a 100k vehicle and think of it getting beat it up on the trail!
