With all the concern around flat towing I thought it’d be nice to share success stories. We just completed a 3 month trip and since taking delivery in May 2022 I’ve flat towed the Bronco 12,488 miles and had 76 starts in which we put the Bronco in flat tow mode along with an equal number of taking it out of flat tow mode. I‘m happy to report zero issues to date!

Here are the details of my setup:

- 2-door Badlands Sasquatch with 2.7, Auto and 4 wheel auto.
-JCR Vanguard winch bumper with Warn winch installed
- Roadmaster Sterling All-Terrain tow bars (connect directly to JCR bumper)
- Roadmaster 10,000# 10” riser hitch (Vanguard bumper’s tow/recovery sit at 27” off the ground, my motorhome’s hitch is 17” so I needed the riser hitch to level the tow bars)
- Demco Airforce One supplemental brake system
- 2020 Newmar Dutch Star diesel pusher class A motorhome with air brakes
- Charge line between motorhome and Bronco
- Curt harness to connect motorhome and Bronco lights
- A printed check list directly from the Bronco manual. I update this and print a new one every trip, just in case the steps outlined in the manual change
- I pulled fuses the first 6 months and until Ford updated the software so this is no longer needed

Let’s hear other success stories!

Picked ours up this February and have already flat towed it about 4,000 miles. Gulf coast, Missouri, and a couple weeks ago Silverton CO. We double-towed to the coast with a golf cart trailer behind the Bronco.

Thanks for sharing, we are about 2 weeks from our first trip. Hopefully we can report the same success in a couple months. You made me feel better!😃

Kansas to Riverside, CA., Kansas to the Canada border in North Dakota, Kansas to eastern Kentucky, Kansas to Hatch, New Mexico, Kansas to Colorado 2x.
2.7 Black Diamond automatic. We followed the printed out procedure to engage and disengage Tow Mode EVERY TIME we engaged or disengaged.
We have the procedure printed and enclosed in a plastic folder sleeve.

By the way, we live in Kansas.

There are many flat-tow horror stories on the Maverick Forum.

Continued good luck.....

I’m curious: apparently you were pulling the fuse as an extra precaution. What was it about the software update that made this extra step unnecessary for you?

I believe there was an issue with the V6 and electric brake booster with tow braking system. 2.3 has vacuum booster so wasn’t affected.

I also have the Curt harness on my 2024 outer banks, 2.7 , auto trans and 5door.
i use the Curt Rambler tow bar mounted directly to the HD modular bumper D rings with Curt adapter, I use RVI brake 3 with wireless connection for the RVI brake away sys. I also use the RVI battery charger, and tire pressure monitoring system. I all works flawlessly.

Many have mentioned following a printed checklist from OM and I do too, It's really not that hard but I feel if I didn't have the cheat sheet I'd be totally confused, especially disengaging tow. Funny how the mind does not learn what it doesn't have to.

And nice to see @Ford Motor Company here, funny they're missing from the my tranny exploded threads.

So you are towing from the factory recovery points?

We have the same bumper and I have gone back and forth on if I will do the baseplate and the ugly look or take the chance of using the recovery points like you and others have successfully done.
I’m just worried if there is an issue that Ford would not stand behind me as they say those recovery points are not for flat towing.
Thanks for clarifying for me.
