Debating on ordering my "dream bronco", or ordering the bare minimum and adding everything extra on myself. Currently looking at the deadening liner, roof racks, mod bumper w/ steel plates, brush guard, and side rails. Absolutely going to add lift and wheels after the fact. Is it worth it to just go through ford, or will it be cheaper to do it myself? Would you keep some options,, while scratching others?? Like keep the front bumper, scratch the brush guard and top liner? I'm kind of new to this, sorry in advance if this has been discussed before!

Since you are in Hawaii, I would be a little concerned about shipping costs for heavy items, such as bumpers and plates. Otherwise, it is usually fine to buy Ford or aftermarket parts when they become available. It depends on whether you want factory look or custom.

Car manufacturers typically don't build their own accessories. They have a company build them, or they source them from another company. So, the steel bumpers, winches, roof top tents, etc. are built by an "aftermarket" company. You can usually get the items for less money through the aftermarket, however , whether it's cheaper overall will depend on availability and your ability to install them. If you buy a Warn winch, especially on sale, through an aftermarket vendor, it'll almost certainly be cheaper than buying the same winch through Ford. However , will you need to take it to a shop to have it installed, or will it be an overweight item that isn't easily shipped to Hawaii? You have to take other things into consideration; however , it is typically much less expensive to shop the items you want and install them yourself.

Living in HI throws a curveball into it. Normally I say buy the minimum from Ford and go aftermarket on the rest. Shipping anything to HI adds a huge cost to parts. I would be inclined to buy from Ford depending on how it pencils out.

I would go see the parts department at Orchid Isle Auto FORD And price a roof rack or heavy duty bumper for an F150 or Ford raptor and see what kind of shipping and mark up they’re going to charge there in Hawaii. Then I would call a dealership in Metro Detroit likes Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights and ask some prices on the exact same item. With me I’m getting a first edition and I will wait until the black modular hardtop is available for it even if it delays my bronco because no way I’m paying shipping charges from Michigan to Hawaii for a huge hard top lol.
