Aluminum lug nuts?? Really. Better than OEM and McGard?

I'm sure they work, but not for me, especially on a six lug 7000 lb off roader.

To each their own, I suppose but the "way better" is subjective at best.
Hey Swamp2,
Definitely subjective, as are most things in life. And that is the beauty of life, we all make our own decisions and we choose accordingly.
I understand your take on lug nuts, but know that I did speak with Mishimoto before purchasing them, and they stand strongly behind their product and it's appropriate durability for the Bronco.
Based on that, I purchased them, and I must admit they do look better and they are certainly lighter. But as you pointed out, that is definitely subjective.

12m is wrong for braptor !
You are correct the M14 is required for the Raptor, while the M12's are for the regular Broncos. Thanks to PaulNY for informing me of this. Mishimoto does make lug nuts in the M14 x 1.25 size.

I was being polite. Definitely not subjective...

McGard material strength is 135-160 kpsi (proof). Thus exceeding OEM standards (which obviously exist 😉). Mishi is 63-69 kpsi (yield). Proof is also less than yield. Thus safety factor for McGard is 214%-231% of Mishi.

Probably a reason they don't make M14 (i.e. truck sizes).

Hope this objective information is useful to you.

Odd laughing response @the poacher .... I was truly trying to help and provided hard, quantitative information.

Hey Swamp2,
No disrespect intended. I meant to push the "like" button and did not realize that I mistakenly pushed the "laughing". I have subsequently corrected it.
I much appreciate your information and for the time it took to dig up the facts. I find this forum a tremendous source of information and have utilized it many times to assist in fixing an issue on my Bronco.

Hey Bronconians! Appreciate the conversation here. Read through all and was curious if there were specific part numbers for McGard installation kits ? I see a few online but am unclear which is best.

Also, why is Gorilla less expensive- considerably…..

Just looking to black out with locks.
TIA😎

Did you see my post #9. I'm selling almost a full set of barely used McGards. They are priced very aggressively to sell.

I don't think McG has kits per se. You just buy the quantities you need I packs of 5 or 6.

You know the deal on pricing - you get what you pay for.

I am trying to do the same thing and it looks like these: McGard 65315BK will work with a 5pc matching lock set like this: 25515BK. If they will fit, these will work with most aftermarket wheels as well where the ones from @swamp2 are a great option for the stock rims.

We need confirmation (help, please) that the 25515BK lock will work on both the wheels and the spare. Both the 65315BK and 25515BK cross check for the Bronco Raptor on the McGard site. Otherwise we will have to go with the 1.935 length 65310BK and 25112 which will stick out a fair bit from the stock rims and only come in sets of 4 for the locks. So one wheel will be "unlocked". But you will not have to replace them if you get aftermarket wheels.

Ended up going McGard after calling them directly. Unfortunately there are no specific installation kits for our rigs. However, I went with what I thought was appropriate as well as took into account the advice received on the phone. Ain’t cheap but should last a long time. Hoping a successful outcome 😂!

The Ford lugnuts are crap. The 2 piece design fails (look up ford lugnuts swelliing) after a few years and you will get stuck somewhere with a lug wrench that no longer fits. Ford will not warranty them and if they do replace them - they will replace them at your cost for the same crap. There was even a lawsuit a few years back about it. Get yourself some McGards like these

Mine are already failing. While the actual nut is solid on the vehicle I can turn the outer shell like 15° either direction

I would double check using the cone seat standard nut option - I believe on stock wheels we need conical seat bulge.

Thanks for the information. I spoke with McGard customer support. They tried repeatedly to steer me away from the tuner lugs which were "only for wheels that require them" such as the RTR wheels for Raptor that actually state they require tuner nuts. Otherwise, I was told, "McGard can only recommend the stock lugs 64074 and lock set 24516 for the stock wheels unless you have another wheel configuration [with the bore depth and diameter, etc.] from the wheel manufacturer."

Perhaps that is so they sell you two sets when you get aftermarket wheels, but maybe there is a technical reason; like the stock wheel weight and intended (designed) use. Maybe it is just marketing and the smaller diameter, lighter nuts will be just fine with the stock wheels. My stated purpose to customer support was increased security with the spline tool and locking nuts and aesthetically the change to the black.

So we are back to the original question posed to Mcgard and the forum which is/was: will the tuner nuts McGard 65315BK and lock set 25515BK work on the stock rims?" Also, why or why not?

We know the stock Bronco Raptor wheels require a 60 degree conical seat. That is an application specific feature which can be different for each wheel design but may be standard within a given manufacturer - check it. We know the wheel studs on the Bronco Raptor are M14x1.5 thread, that is a constant on the Raptor in it's stock form. By those measures the tuner nuts selected should work since they are the same length as the "stock bulge" and locks with the same cone, finishing at the same cone OD for cone surface engagement, just smaller body diameter.

Therefore the better question: is there a strength advantage to the "stock bulge" (just sounds very unappealing) or a dangerous disadvantage to the tuner nuts?

Apparently not since the McGard application guide lists all four considered configurations (stock lugs 64074 and lock set 24516; Tuner lugs 65315BK and lock set 25515BK) for the stock wheel configuration on the Bronco Raptor. Leaving only the aesthetics. The lug area is huge for all kinds of impact thickness sockets to get into (because, you know, people and their love of the impact wrench). Putting the trimmed down tuner nut might look a little anemic in the hole, but according to the McGard application guide they are acceptable for use with all the standard disclaimers.
