Didn't want to necro the 2.7 engine failure thread but it looks like Ford is finally looking into what a lot of us all assumed when some of these started failing. Nothing new to discuss other than what it says in this release. Just a high level read of the announcement tells me they will likely come out with a program to check specific vehicles (no idea what kind of "test") and/or possibly come out with an M program to extend engine coverage on specific build date engines. Don't hold me to this as it's just me thinking out loud based on the vague statement they just released.

That would be nice, since my engine does fall in the middle of the range that was failing. And being at 69k miles already, whereas I would think I'm safe, don't necessarily have the warm and fuzzies here.

Maybe you can talk to Ford and let them know we'd gladly take a V8 as a replacement. ;)

Interesting it's including MY22. I don't recall hearing of a single 22 that was affected. My engine was out of the range, but not by much. My Bronco was a second week build in 22.

Curious what comes of this. Thanks for passing on the info.

I would settle for the Raptor 3.0

Like you my engine with 50,000 miles (just a week ago) falls smack dab in the middle of the zone. Apparently (knock on wood) clear but without looking what's the highest mile failed engine due to the valve keeper issues?

And just how will dealers test a vehicle for potential future valve keeper failure? If the keepers have yet to fail then nothing should be apparent during either a compression or leak down test. What exactly are tge symptoms that miles and thousands of miles to go identify an engine at risk? It is not like plaque buildup in arteries as a threat so we take a daily baby aspirin. And per chance a single valve indicates a greater carbon buildup than the others or more than "acceptable" what is the solution? Two full strength aspirin and call the doctor when the engine seizes.

On the bright side as far as I know (and I know nothing) no failed engine has sent a rod through the side of the block and set the Fiero on fire, where the fix (hard to believe Ford Pinto team not involved) was not to fix the engine but to add fireproof material to engine bay.

I have no idea how the test is going to happen, but the issue wasn’t the keepers. It was the material the valves were made of.

If my motor fails after the ESP of 150k miles, I will likely just accept it as bad luck, and an excuse to somehow shoe horn a 3.5 Ecoboost or 5.0 into it.

First you have to un-shoe horn your rear suspension.

I have an unbelievable amount of work to do on that thing. I would have it worked on by a real mechanic while I am stuck here in Florida, but I don't know any that I trust to do the work unsupervised in Texas.

My build date of September 21st 2021. Right at the beginning of the date range. Only 15,800 miles all seams fine now. Only driver the Bronco to go wheeling. Will be watching to see where this goes.🤔

Engineering could ask Techs to record the engine number so they can track what plant it was assembled at. From there, who knows what a fix would be. Valve replacement? Cylinder head? Expensive either way.
Honda has a safety recall for Pilot connecting rod bearings. Guess what we get to do. Yup. Remove all the rod bearings, place in a box and take photos for engineering while they conjure up an updated bearing kit for replacement. Ford might require some teardown to determine what direction to go in.
