Ford Escape, errr bronco SPORT (lower case bronco on purpose)

Got a loaner bronco SPORT and holy cow its an affront to BRONCO"S old and new everywhere to have that title in its name. Not trying to inflame anybody. But that rear seat? For kids?? And the driving experience and cockpit. Bears zero resemblance to full size Bronco. My question is thinking back has Ford ever reused the same BASE name on two different cars that clearly are VERY DIFFERENT?

My loaner Bronco Sport was uhh, special.

I forced it off-road even if it didn't like it

I told the Sport that no matter who buys the stupid thing, at least it has a few miles of off-road under it's little belt.

My nephew has a Shelby Mustang and had a Mustang GT before that. My neighbor has the electric Mustang. I've noted some differences. Other brands have done this, too, like the Mitsubishi Carisma vs Carisma GT in Europe, completely different cars.

Bronco II came pretty close, so there is a precedent.

For Ford, the Falcon and Torino platforms gave you everything from a 2 door convertible to a unibody pickup. Chevy had the Corvair, which also gave you a van along with 2/4 doors, a convertible, a pickup and a wagon.

I know what you're saying though, it could have easily been any other name but Ford seems hell bent on bastardizing older names (Mach E, Maverick, Bronco Sport, the Capri in Europe).

Yep, both Broncos available at the same time though the BII was Ranger based just like our 6Gs.

The BII was a mall baller, but so was the full size F150 monster truck. Honestly I’d rather off road the BII of that generation. Both need heavy mods to get where the 6G lands from the dealer. I love the 6G but also have fond memories in the back of a two tone blue BII when I was a kid.

We also have a Sport. No idea why they call it a Bronco. It should be called the Escape, but they already used the name. Escape/Tribute were a little tougher looking than current Escape.
