What's the point of expensive, more-problematic turbocharging if it saves you diddly squat over normal aspiration?
Come out here to CO and then ask that question! My f150 w/ 3.5EB on heavy 35” MT tires and 10speed auto hauls a** up mountain passes and rarely goes above 2200 rpm. I even had to turbo my wrangler just to get it driveable even after regearing with the heavy 35s and auto trans. My wife’s jeep 3.6 absolutely sucks out here at altitude.

The base will have the highest gears .The other 2 gears with the lowest 4.70 will get the worst MPG .
It's not that simple. If they did city driving only, a lower gear could actually help. If they did highway driving, then yes 3.73s would be a bit better.

So, I went into my Ford dealer today and we were talking about the 2.3L and 2.7L. I was told that the 2.7L in the Edge ST is the same 2.7L that they will put in the Bronco. The Edge weighs 4,477 lbs on Google (though the dealership told me it weighed 4,414 lbs) and gets a MPG of 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG highway. The Bronco on Google states it will weigh 3,950-4,450 lb (est). I could be wrong, but please someone tell me their opinion of this. I had a slight moment of hope today thinking the fuel economy may be better than I had thought, but my head could be in the clouds.

Thoughts?

Come out here to CO and then ask that question!
I live in northern Utah. ?

Ultimately I guess my point wasn‘t “Why turbocharge?” so much as “Shouldn’t we be seeing an improvement in MPG?”

Depending on the Bronco you ordered and options selected, it can weigh over 5,300 lbs (4dr, BL, Squatch, Hard top, etc). So weight will negatively impact fuel economy. The other knock is the general shape. The bronco is far less aerodynamic and has much larger wheels than the edge which will also reduce MPG, although the overall impact of this has yet to be seen.

1. Wonder what build weighs that. I know my BL sasq 2.7 won't

2. Aerodynamics

My 2012 JK Sport was getting 20-21mpg on the highway and about 17mpg in town before I put 33s on it. After that, it dropped to about 17-18mpg highway and ~16mpg city. This was with the manual and terrible 3.21 gears. After the bigger tires, 6th gear was unusable :ROFLMAO: .

My 2015 Ram 1500 2wd Hemi gets 20mpg highway and about 16mpg city. But that is if I drive it nicely. Average is about 17mpg on my 55 mile daily commute (70% highway, 30% city). Fuel mileage falls off a cliff if driven in anger.

I'd be happy with 17mpg city and 21mpg highway for the base 4cyl Bronco and manual. Obviously the squatch will get worse fuel economy.

I bet the non squatch broncos may meet this on paper but not be any better...These are 5000# bricks that are certainly less aerodynamic than f150s with their super low air dams, etc.
The world we live in where an F-150 could be called aerodynamic.
