Ford Motor Company has filed to register Bronco Big Bend as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Ford Authority has uncovered.

The Ford Bronco Big Bend application was filed on July 25th, 2019 and is assigned serial number 88536061. The application states that the name will be used in conjunction with “Land motor vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles, pick-up trucks, sport utility vehicles.”

This is the first time that Ford has filed to register Bronco Big Bend with the USPTO.

The Ford Authority Take
Earlier today, we covered another Ford Bronco trademark filing, this time for the name “Bronco Outer Banks,” which, like Bronco Big Bend, is also intended for use with “Land motor vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles, pick-up trucks, sport utility vehicles.”

That makes for two back-to-back, river-themed, Bronco-related trademark filings. It would appear as though a trend has formed.

When it comes to off-roaders, there is some specialty equipment out there designed for (ahem) fording a river. For example, a snorkel helps to keep water out of the intake during particularly deep crossings. As such, seeing these two trademark filings makes us think the Blue Oval brand may be working on some kind of package or model variant for the up-and-coming off-roader that involves river crossings.

Of course, these river-themed trademarks aren’t the only hints as to what the new Bronco will offer. Previously, we found out Ford had filed trademarks for the Bronco Sport and Bronco Scout names, as well as trademarks for the name Badlands and Adrenaline. With so many different trademarks to choose from, it seems as though Ford has all sorts of model variants and packages planned for the revival of the Bronco nameplate.

The all-new Ford Bronco will likely drop for the 2021 model year, offering a true rough-stuff-ready midsize SUV alternative to the Jeep Wrangler. While loosely based on the existing Ford Ranger T6 architecture, the new Bronco will still offer loads of enhancements and changes to make it a unique offering within Ford’s lineup.

Sounds as if they may be going the Wrangler route - making graphics packages for specific regions.

Appearance packages. It could indicate a top type and a few other options. Maybe even a limited or unique paint or interior color palette.

The money is in the personalization upgrades and add-ons, and Ford just might try to cash in on that with factory options.

This is nice to see. Different appearance packages and options was something we wanted.

I just hope you don't have to pay a hefty upgrade for it to be formidable off-road.

Exactly. Manufactures have been leaving lots of money on the table by not providing factory certified add-ons. Mopar has show Ford that if you make a decent amount of quality add-ons at launch people will buy them. Some of best looking and performing Jeep JLs are "Moparized". The aftermarket wants to be sure the market is there before flooding the market with new parts. If Ford makes them available at the start they are a leg up on any aftermarket company.

Go back to school papa, BII was in fact a hatch! Also this is the wee Bronco, based off of the Escape.
