We bought an 18 f150 and a 19 edge that all the FP app stuff seems to still work. Never paid any fees there.
That means the modem is activated and working. You'd have to do a master reset, don't pair your phone and delete those vehicles from the app.

I had to reformat and upgrade the f150 with the cyan labs program. Radio was crap. Terribly non responsive most days. Does that count as a reset?

You will be forced to activate Ford pass when you take delivery. We (dealers) get penalized if you don't so play nice and go ahead and activate. If you don't want it after a few weeks delete and uninstall it. You will lose some features like remote start and lock and unlock from your phone but if you don't care about that this is your option. From what we've seen on other vehicles the transmitter is built into other modules which makes it impossible to physically disconnect. Someone with programming skills out there needs to start working on this.

Tracking my phone is my choice. Tracking a vehicle I own should also be my choice, not mandated by the people who think they are entitled to my data.
What do you do for customers that don't carry an Android or an iPhone?

I have a GrapheneOS phone. FordPass is not available in F-Droid or any open source store and I doubt any dealer knows how to side load it.

This x100

Why are we still pretending built in navigation has a place in vehicles in 2021. I have more use for a cigarette lighter in my truck and I don’t smoke.
Even better idea. Learn your way around without map apps.

You can still set the account up via email and add your vehicle. I assume your phone can BT connect to the vehicle so as long as you do that and turn the connectivity on in the settings, you should be good. This is the first time I've been asked that specific phone question so I'm going off of other situations where people don't have a smart phone but can still activate the modem. If all else fails, there's an 800 number you can call and speak with one of the FP specialists.

Next week, I should be able to buy a Black Diamond v6 four door hardtop with no packages. Does even this basic vehicle have FordPass and a modem?

Wonder how this is going to work in California when someone signs up for the "do not sell my data" list.
California is a one party state owned by Silicon Valley. You do the math.

New Ford vehicles are "connected" and Ford Pass "connects" your device to the car. I use the eco-system and generally find giving up my privacy for sake of usability of my technology is a good deal. I get those who would rather not share and typically you have opt out options with Ford or any of the other manufacturers, but you have to actively seek to understand and limit what you share. I work in the data business and had exposure to the OEMs perspectives and data management requirements in the recent past. They are, in general, more protective and conservative than most other companies you interact with in a "connected" way.
What is the eco-system?

It's not apathy. It's understanding where company revenue streams come from. Nothing in this world is free, so how can GoogTwitbook provide their services for free?

If you want to partake in our connected world, you decide which trade off you want. Take away the marketing revenue stream and we'll be paying $1 per Google search or .50 per tweet and that $800 cell phone will be $1500. Or they won't exist at all.
The debate on threads like this tend to revolve around privacy and the two sides are naive vs. paranoid. What's often not discussed is the extent to which "free" Silicon Valley services are garbage software. Because their priority is collecting your data and selling you shit you don't want or need, they design the software for the benefit of Facebook/Google/Apple shareholders, and not you.

There are tons of apps that allow map downloads.
Even my watch does it...

That's because Garmin is trying to build the best device for its customers whereas Google has a very different business model in mind. You are what's for sale in the Google services platform. Which is why it's functionally crippled, garbage software.

It's not always about the route, I sure know how to get from my job to my house, I've been doing it for over a year now. I still frequently check on the traffic, cops, accidents before leaving.
