Ford has a reason for offering so many gray variations, and two reds.

  3. Gray, 15.5%

Ford just has the wrong people responsible for selecting colors for the new Bronco.

That's because 77% of colors available on dealers lots are White, Black, Gray or Silver. Give buyers more choices and that static would almost certainly change.

the proportions would change if the buying model here in the states were
to order the vehicle to build at the factory instead of picking up what's available
on the dealer lot.

white, silver, black and grey will always sell. it's like painting all the walls
white in a house before you attempt to sell it. the new owner will repaint
it to their color choice.
Not always so. I've ordered 4 vehicles and all were black. 2 others were obtained from other dealers because my dealer didn't have what I wanted and they were also black. I agree with the house theory. All of the walls were white when I bought the house 20 years ago and everything has been redone at least once.

Definitely wish they would offer more colors, even if only for this first year. I understand why dealers order the bland colors, and hence why thereā€™s a negative feedback loop of the bean counters thinking thereā€™s no demand for fun colors. But this first year is vastly different from normal business. Theyā€™ll have a good majority of the first year of production being specifically ordered by people, not dealers, so thereā€™s very little risk of odd colors sitting on lots. Give us the green, Ford!

Sadly, this is all too true because - wait for it - customers donā€™t order cars, dealers order cars.

We are ordering our Broncos and we want them in the colors weā€™d most like to see. We arenā€™t concerned about the initial sale, other peopleā€™s reactions, or resale.

Our color palette is quite different from what a ā€˜sell by the poundā€™ dealer would buy because we are the customers and we are assured of waiting to get what we want. As long as weā€™re already waiting, we might as well get what we want! And we want more colors!

Keep in mind this forum is a small fraction of the total reservation holders and I believe it was stated about only half have placed a reservation. Those ordinary people will probably buy the usual colors and Bronco will follow the same pattern as the rest of the market.

This is what corporate thinking gets you... boring colors.

Jeep and sports cars are iconic and personal. They have color to add an identity. You know, like the Bronco should have... not some corporate mind game.

It's a circular reference. People buy boring colors because that's what the factories make. The factories make boring colors because it's what people buy.
People buy whatā€™s on the lot. Dealers order what everyone can agree is ok.

One time Nissan (corporate) forced us to take a gold car. It was a 2012/13 Nissan Juke if you want to look it up. Our General Sales Manager didn't want it for obvious reasons and they put a decent bonus for whoever sold it. We never had bonuses on cars fresh off the delivery trucks. I won out by selling to a young pragmatic couple who wanted the best lease deal and since it didn't come with some tiny option like rubber floor mats or something, they went with it to save like $1-2 a month. Fun times.
It's also the Leasing Effect.

Dealers don't want lessees to order something unsafe for resale.

Dealers want people to lease the guaranteed bland.
I am driving a leased orange, manual transmission Subaru. Lol. Even when I signed for it I thought to myself, glad I don't have to try to sell this at the end.

If it's a Crosstrek then it's the exact car that I have competing with the Bronco in my mind...

It's not competing well, aside from the color...

Do you want my two cents on it? Overall great car and value but has a couple issues.

Google the 1966 Ford Bronco exterior paint colors. I would blindly pick a 1966 color out of a hat over the 2021 colors. Don't think I wouldn't rock Springtime Yellow!
