Ford to phase out Sync in 2023

So anyone on the inside track of Ford phasing out it’s Sync OS (ONX) in 2023 in favor of a Google (Android) based OS? Curious what that means for everything prior to 2023- will we get an OTA update to change the software, or do they simply stop updating it and we’re stuck with whatever version we had before the switch?
Ford, in early Feb 2022, signed a six year partnership with Google to replace its Sync OS (first introduced in 2007)with a Google-based software. Anyone with insight or predictions?

It could still be called Sync, but just use a different backend.

If they don’t offer Apple Play on the Android based systems it will be a train wreck for Ford. Surely they aren’t THAT dumb.

No one knows what the new system will be like BUT have plenty of opinions why they don't like it.

same as my son .... hates lobster but has never tried it. Makes no sense BUT bronco6g .. carry on

People aren't complaining about the system, they're complaining about the company that will make it.

I’m bringing it up because obviously Android is the biggest competitor of Apple. Just did a quick read through some Volvo forums and Apple Car Play is a feature “coming soon”. The consensus was also that the Android systems are very basic, clunky, and not developed well at all.

That’s Ford faithful for ya. Anything that could be considered a slight on Ford they have to defend, it’s really weird.

Unless you live in the woods unibomber style with no connection to the outside world, you're being tracked somehow, some way....

That aside, I'm glad their getting rid of Sync.... It's barely ok as an OS and even that took over a decade.

The OS being Android doesn't mean Car play can't be supported. It actually makes a lot of sense to allow a company with much more expertise in operating systems do this work.

I doubt that will be the case, most newer hondas are running an android based system and still work with Apple CarPlay
